I don’t drink at home often, but on a sunny summer day, the idea of sitting on the patio with a cocktail is just too enticing. For an easy, refreshing cocktail, this four-ingredient drink is the way to go. It’s also a great use for the flavored seltzer water that most of us have in our refrigerators.
I like this Oola vodka because it’s smooth and not terribly expensive. We’re also a big fan of the Kirkland Signature vodka, the rumor is that it’s Grey Goose in Costco packaging. I’m not sure I buy that, but if you’re having a party, you can’t beat the price.
Add ice to a glass (these Anthropologie glasses are my favorite), then add 1.5 shots of vodka, and 1 shot of St. Germain elderflower liqueur. Then, pour in some seltzer and add a lime wedge.
It’s such a simple cocktail, but I think the St. Germain gives it a bit more pop. One of my girlfriends makes a similar drink but with a splash of champagne instead of the seltzer.
So what does one wear for a casual cocktail on a Friday night? I like a relaxed jersey dress.
Lou & Grey Mediamix Dress ($79.50 + 50%-off with code FLASH)
The Lou & Grey line from LOFT has some lovely relaxed summer dresses. I like this simple tank dress with a racerback. They have a number of lovely dresses including this short-sleeve swing dress and this sleeveless back pleat dress in pink. I recently bought this signature-soft swing dress in fiery orange. I’ll let you know how it is when it arrives. But with this 50%-off sale running, I couldn’t resist picking up a couple of dresses for warm weather.
Plus-size? Try this Caslon drop-waist dress or this Modcloth dress with a twist front.
Chris Cohen did a piece in the May issue of Lucky Peach breaking down Kirkland Signature (Costco’s signature brand) v major high-end liquors. Worth a read for anyone with a Costco card looking for the best cost-saving alternatives.
Yay! The return of one of my favorite features. I’ve never had elderflower. What does it compare to? Is it sweet? Citrusy?
It has a hint of sweetness, but it has a citrusy herbal flavor.
Totally agree – this was one of my favorite posts of the old old blog (circa 2010-11) – so happy it is back!
I loooooooove this beverage!!! The elderflower is a little sweet so I like to pair it with bitters and prosecco.
Love the cocktail and glad Happy Hour is Back!
