  1. Anna says:

Ha, I can totally relate to breakup shopping. A few weeks before my ex and I broke up I saw this really bright and colorful duvet cover at Macy’s. When I showed him, he hated it. Right after we broke up, it was the first thing I bought. It was like my personal f* you, and it felt awesome.

  2. Mary says:

I just read the whole Harry Potter series for the first time last year. I love the idea that Snape could still be alive.

  3. Lo says:

Belle, this is one of my favorite posts — how is the WH Deputy Chief book? It’s on my kindle wish list, would love to hear your thoughts. In addition, I’m always happy to see a harry potter fan theory reference. And, finally, the sale to walmart of Modcloth broke my heart so thank you for sharing the story… Especially with the information about allegations against leadership for less than stellar practices and rhetoric.

    • Jenette says:

Hi! “Who Though This Was a Good Idea?” is an awesome read. It’s hard to put down, and it’s so funny. Alysssa Mastromonaco is totally relatable, and inspiring. Thought I’d give my 2 cents because I’ve also been telling everyone I know about that book.

  4. Etotes says:

I love that you #groundbreaking and I’m hoping that it was a Devil Wears Prada shout out.

  5. Shannon says:

I wasn’t aware of the Modcloth sale to Walmart, but I’ve noticed I shop there less and less. And I used to love Modcloth.

The website has become confusing, buggy, and hard to navigate. In particular, searching by size no longer works (so there will be, say 900 items in the sale section, you’ll search for items available in medium…and still see 900 items, the vast majority of which aren’t available in medium). You also can’t search by size for shoes any more, which is super annoying when you’re an unusual size (5.5) and know that maybe ten percent of the shoes they sell could fit you. Who is going to bother clicking link after link after link on the off chance an available item will be the right size?

Shopping with Modcloth went from being fun to being super irritating.

    • Valerie says:

Also, I’ve heard from a friend and former Modcloth devotee that the quality has gone down while prices have gone up (sound familiar, JCrew?). Sad, because a lot of their styles were fun and I could recommend them to friends of many different sizes.

      • Shannon says:

It’s been at least a year since I bought from Modcloth, but I usually just picked stuff from the sale section because almost none of it was worth the full price. I just took a look around today, and prices seem to be about 20% higher, but the reviews are way more harsh. Looks like lots of unhappy customers.

I liked Modcloth because they had fun, interesting patterns (lemons! sailboats! berries!), but paired with classic shapes. So I could still be a little bit quirky, without looking like a preschooler.

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
