Casual Friday: Semi-Casual Outfits for Fall

Aug 26, 2016

While many of us enjoy the perks of casual Friday, not everyone is so lucky.  Today’s outfits are for early fall in an office where casual Friday is more semi-casual; these outfits may function as regular workday attire for some of you.

Sweatshirt: Factory Funnelneck Sweatshirt ($53)

To balance out the lack of denim, I added a cozy cowlneck sweatshirt.  For some offices, a sweatshirt will never be appropriate.  (Sorry, ladies.)  My personal feeling is that as long as the sweatshirt has a strong shape a sleek cut, a sweatshirt can be styled in a professional way.

This French Connection sweatshirt with an origami-like folded hem is pretty chic.  This ruffled MSGM sweatshirt is like a camouflage sweatshirt, as in you can’t tell it is one.  Plus-size?  Try this Allen Allen crossover sweatshirt in white.

Left, Skirt: No. 2 Pencil Skirt ($120) // Bag: DKNY Bryant Park Satchel ($265) // Bracelet: House of Harlow Del Sol Cuff ($49) // Boots: H&M Leather Ankle Boots ($90)

One of my go to outfits for chilly mornings is a pencil skirt, a cozy sweatshirt, tights and booties.  For early fall, you probably don’t need the tights.  I love these H&M snakeskin booties.  The mix of colors makes them a versatile and sleek choice.  I also like these peep-toe Michael Kors booties.

Yes, this is a J.Crew pencil skirt.  How I wish someone else offered the colors that they do.  I like the way the green and grey mix together; it’s colorful, but not overwhelming.  You could also go the monochromatic route with a dark grey skirt.

I chose this shockingly chic DKNY bag in dark charcoal.  For something under-$100, try this carryall satchel from TJMaxx.  The black in the boots ties into this black enamel and gold bracelet to bring the look together.  I also like this thinner Adia Kibur bracelet for just $13.

Right, Pants: Martie Cotton Pant ($89) // Bag: Sole Society Cognac Tote ($65) // Ring: Express Round Cocktail Ring ($25) // Shoe: BP. Moreover Flats ($50)

I can’t remember the last time that I wrote a post with more than one J.Crew item in it, but the color of these pants really caught my eye.  LOFT’s Essential Skinny Pants are also worth a look.  For a more casual pant, I like these Sloan-Fit Ankle Pants from BR in an olive green.  Plus-size?  Try these Alfani pants in a rich wine color.

The ring is the accent piece that gives this look a bit of pop.  It’s large, colorful, and has real impact.  This ring with two large chalcedony stones is also awesome, and it comes int three colors.

For the rest of the accessories, I chose a sleek pointed toe flat and a cognac tote.  When wearing slim-fitting pants, the pointy toe is essential.  They lengthen the leg and add a bit of sleekness.  If light tan isn’t your color of choice, try these cool Hexus flats in navy with a gold medallion.

I own this sweatshirt from J. Crew Factory and while it is really cute, it’s itchy! You definitely need to wear something under it.

Limited has a similar color skirt right now which I bet is similar quality to Jcrew’s right now (which doesn’t speak well for JCrew).

  4. I have found a GEM of a new company to repace the gaping hole that J.crew has left in my closet. They are called Lularoe and they make some of the most gorgeous pattern for their pencil skirts. They are stretch, not zippered, but the fabric is great and totally office professional. I’m totally in love!!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
