1) The do’s and don’ts of hanging out with your boss. (Levo)

2) One look, and you will be just as obsessed with Willful Goods hand-dipped wood bowls as I am.  I need all the colors.

3) A throwback to that time a Congressman added women’s rights to the Civil Rights Act as a joke. (Long Reads)

4) Ann Taylor has 60%-off sale items. I grabbed these bright fuchsia sandals for a bit of summer fun.  But don’t miss the discounts on suiting, esp. this hot sharkskin wrap skirt.

5) Why does society hate men who wear flip-flops? (Mel)

6) Old Navy finally restocked the Ashen Lilac jeans I have been craving all summer (just $30).  They would look great with this eyelet-yoke blouse.

7) Meet Inez Milholland, the society girl who began a martyr for women’s suffrage. (Time)

8) Need to up your skirt game?  Try this navy printed skirt from Limited and this Closet floral midi skirt from ASOS, both under-$100.

9) Is empathy the secret to fixing the office ‘happiness gap’? (Business Insider)

10) This blush, scalloped-edge tote from Deux Lux is the perfect bag for weekend errands.  And you won’t believe the price.

11) Essential Reading: What is Pokemon Go, and why is everyone talking about it? Because this thing is going to be HUGE. (Lifehacker)

12) If you love bold eye makeup for a night on the town, you have got to try Estee Lauder’s Metallishadow.  Very cool.

  1. Allison says:

Any ideas on what men can wear beside flip flops or boat shoes? The only summer casual shoes my husband has are flip flops and tennis shoes, he refuses to wear boat shoes because he thinks they are too “fratty”. Help?

  2. Monica says:

Gah, Pokemon Go. I had no idea, and then out and about this weekend we saw all these groups of people wandering around the park looking at their phones. And of course we were like, young people these days! But then, we saw our middle aged neighbors and their kids. All with tablets, phones etc in front of their faces. In cars(!) and on skateboards, bikes and foot. It was actually really strange.

    • Jenn S. says:

The people in cars need to cut the shit. They are the people who are going to give a fun thing (that is encouraging people to get out and EXERCISE) a bad name. Unfortunately, I’ve seen my fair share in my small town.

That said, I play. It’s really fun – just like everything else, you need to be responsible and not an idiot about it. There have been a ton of reports of injuries from people not watching where they are going, among other things.

      • Monica says:

Agreed, always important to watch where you are going!

Also, I didn’t mean to disparage the game or the players. It was just so odd to see all these people ambling around, in a seemingly aimless manner. Once we realized what they were all doing we were just surprised by how popular it was!

        • Jenn S. says:

No worries. It’s definitely weird to me to see, even though I’m one of the people! You can definitely tell who is playing! And yeah – even as someone who plays, enjoys it, etc. I’m blown away by the popularity.

  3. Monica says:

Oh also, living near the beach my whole life, a man in flip-flops is completely acceptable to me. In fact, I spend most of the year in flip flops (on the weekends of course) so who am I to judge?

  4. Anna says:

I don’t mind a man in flip flops (Birkenstocks or those strappy hiking sandal things are another story). I do mind a man in flip flops with nasty toes. The other day I saw a guy whose toenails were GRAY. Just because you’re not expected to get pedicures or paint your toenails doesn’t mean you don’t have to take care of your feet. Put those things away. My feet were not always the prettiest when I trained for marathons, or the time I ripped off my big toenail, but I either put a clean bandaid on and made sure the rest of my feet looked presentable or I kept them covered til they were.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
