1) Taking on “marketplace feminism” and why it’s a double-edged sword for female empowerment and gender equality. (The Washington Post)

2) For a small casual purse, this tassel saddle purse from Old Navy is a steal.  I also like this faux-leather bucket bag from BP.; it’s trendy but with classic elements.

3) If Buzzfeed re-titled classic poetry as clickbait, it might look like this. (Excuse the Bananas)

4) Easy vacation dresses are a summer must.  This $48 Leith racerback dress is casual chic.  And this Allen B lace-accent sheath dress in bold cobalt goes from day to dinner out in a snap for $35.

5) Need a new job?  These tips may give you an edge. (Glamour)

6) I am officially obsessed with Mark & Graham.  This dark teal doctor’s bag and slouchy grey tote would both be at home in my closet.  Oh, and this business card case would make a great graduation gift.

7) The dirty advertising practices of big bloggers and even bigger beauty brands. (The Fashion Law)

8) This Velvet Ziggy Slub Dress is still my favorite maxi-dress.  The slits keep it cool, even in the heat, and the short sleeve is flattering.

9) 17 women talk about how to make friends post-college. (The Cut)

10) Looking for statement shoes for summer?  These lace-up, block heels from Steve Madden are superb.  To give your work wardrobe a burst of color, try these M.Gemi ballet flats.

11) China’s extra-wide pink parking spaces for women are amusing and insulting at the same time. (Atlas Obscura)

12) If you need pink nail polishes for summer, Nails Inc’s You’re Pumped Gel Polish Set has a pale pink, coral, and bright watermelon shade.

  1. Pink parking places are ridiculous, but as a pregnant woman. I’d love more space to maneuver in. Parking spaces in DC are so small and when you’re parked 6 inches from the next car, it’s hard to get your belly out!:)

  2. Liz says:

That article about advertising through bloggers is fascinating and one of the reasons I’ve been a loyal reader of yours for years. I trust you to tell us when something is sponsored, versus the majority of other bloggers where I’m super skeptical about their recommendations OR wonder how this ‘small-time’ blogger can afford so many high end items…

    • Rory says:

This is one of the reasons I’ve stopped reading blogs. All of the content is basically sponsored and it’s just like reading a magazine. I started reading blogs because they were more authentic than magazines but it’s not that way anymore.

  3. Katie says:

Do you have a reccommended Plus-size version of the Velvet Ziggy Slub Dress? It looks fab!

  4. Ral says:

Mark & Graham bags are wonderful! Their everyday tote is so soft. Just the right amount of slouch.

Thanks also for posting the blogging advertising article. I always wondered how typical people could get access to such expensive items so often. Some probably just don’t know – many of the bloggers are millennials and naive.

  5. Ral says:

And PS – thanks Belle for being upfront with your postings and opinions. That, and among many other reasons, are why so many of us read and support you.

  6. Shana says:

Any idea where we can find the sandals the model is wearing in the Nordstrom Leith racerbackdress link?

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
