Apr 28, 2016

23 months ago, I started law school.  Next Thursday, I’ll be done.  Provided, of course, that I can complete Belle’s End of Law School Checklist:

  • 1 Family Law Final
  • 1 Public Lands Law Final
  • 35 Externship Hours
  • 10 Community Service Hours
  • 11 Legal Assistance Hours, Including Case Closure and Transfer Memos

Blog content will be, let’s go with, unpredictable.  Repeat after me, it’s almost over, it’s almost over…

xoxo, Belle

  1. Nina says:

Congrats, Belle!!! Although I don’t know you, I am so proud of and really happy for you. Lots of love from Atlanta!

  2. Jenn S. says:

One week! It’s almost over. Thrilled for you from Pittsburgh!

  3. CR says:

You can do it! And I heartily recommend a bluebook bonfire when it’s all over. That thing is the devil, and, based on personal experience, it’s massively cathartic to watch it go up in flames.

    • Melissa says:

Oh goodness no! I still use mine four years after graduation.

The outlines do burn nicely though.

    • Crystal says:

Unfortunately, depending on how/where you practice, you very well might need that evil Bluebook in the future. :/ (I still use mine quite frequently.) Perhaps set fire to your outlines? Or a book that isn’t worth reselling?

  4. Mary says:

Do what you have to do to finish your degree. We’ll still be here when you get back.

  5. Valerie L Pantone says:

Best wishes!! What other blogs do you recommend checking in on to keep us going while you’re gone?

  6. Danielle says:

More love from Pittsburgh. GO BELLE GO!! Take all the time you need. We will still be here when you get back. Good luck. And keep the blue book.

  7. Annie says:

    You got this!

  8. Kate says:

    Congratulations and it’s almost over!!

  9. Jen says:

The end is near. Good luck!

  10. A says:

I don’t know you either but I am cheering you on from a small suburb outsid of Toronto Canada. You’ve got this. One week, ONE!!

  11. Trezlen says:

Congrats, Belle! Only burn that Bluebook if it’s the 19th edition. If it’s the 20th edition, hang onto it. It’s only a year old.

  12. Ellen says:

Congrats, Belle! I’ve been reading this blog for years and it seems like just yesterday you announced you were packing up to move out west for law school!!

  13. Tech Writer says:

Love and support coming from Silicon Valley from yet another person who doesn’t know you, yet whom you’ve helped over the years. Keep breathing! You’ll get there and we will be here when you’re back.

  14. Shelley says:

    Congrats Belle!

  15. holly says:

    Good luck!

  16. Jessica says:

Burn the Bluebook. It’s all online if you ever need it- https://www.legalbluebook.com/

  17. Jenette says:

Actually, I would love to read about the things that helped you survive law school! What bag did you use to carry all those heavy books? Binders, notebooks or was your laptop fine for notes?…I get too distracted, oops. I’m starting law school in the fall and have tons of questions! I would be so happy if you wrote a post about a survival guide. Good luck!! You’re almost there! You have and continue to inspire so many!

  18. Tree says:

Go Belle Go! What a huge challenge you’ve overcome and dominated – we’re proud!

  19. Ann says:

I’ve been reading this blog for a few years and couldn’t have made the move/transition to Virginia without it. It’s kinda cheesy but you really are an inspiration and its great to see your hard work paying off. Congratulations, Belle!

  20. Libbi V says:

So beyond proud of you for chasing your dreams and building a career to be reckoned with! You are such an inspiration, I hope our paths cross one day. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
