1) A female firefighter was trolled for months before taking her own life.  Workplace bullying has now moved online. (The Washington Post)

2) Nordstrom’s Shoes of Prey shop lets you choose from more than two dozen styles and customize your look with different colors and patterns.  Very cool.

3) Don’t end a meeting without doing these three things. (HBR)

4) Nothing is more chic than a glamorous coat.  This ASOS Mac with oversized pockets is a jaw-dropper.  This pale pink, cotton coat from Mango is also gorgeous.

5) What should you do if your boss e-mails you while you’re on vacation. (Marie Claire)

6) LastCall is offering 20-65% off everything.  This Tahari asymmetric crepe jacket is at the top of my list.  I also like this Nakamol beaded necklace.  Plus-size ladies should check out this Taylor fit-and-flare dress.

7) Good tailoring is invisible, but a good tailor stands out.  FYI: My favorite D.C. tailor is Cheryl Lofton on T Street. (Racked)

8) The Kate Spade Karolina wristlet in gold, black or pastels brings style and utility together for the woman who wants a small bag for the essentials.

9) Why are so many smart people unhappy? (The Atlantic)

10) This Vince Camuto pleat front top–in brights, prints and pastels–looks great under cardis and jackets.  And this Eliza J v-back top adds a touch of glamour to pencil skirts and wide leg trousers.

11) I just discovered Blinkist, a site that shortens non-fiction books into 15-minute summaries so you can learn on the go. (Thanks, Hitha)

12) Talbot’s, your sail-print shirtdress is the stuff preppy dreams are made of.  Hello, casual Fridays.

Thank you for sharing your favorite DC tailor!

  2. Kate says:

I LOVE CHERYL! She’s the best and her prices are reasonable. Her team has always tailored my clothes perfectly.

Funny, I was thinking about asking you for a recommendation for a DC tailor last year when I needed my wedding dress done. Glad to know I picked the one you would recommended without even asking you.

  3. Former FFXer says:

I am very familiar with the FFX Co FD. I have a friend who is female, gay, and a firefighter in that department. She has managed to be successful despite the people who do not want to see her succeed, but it has not been easy and Nicole’s death has hit her hard. I also am familiar with Fairfax Underground. Nicole is certainly not the first woman to be derogatorily discussed and targeted on that site and I doubt she will be the last. FFXU does not discriminate and regularly talks trash about local personalities and anyone else they deem worthy of their target. I of course cannot say whether the posts on FFXU were what pushed Nicole to believe that ending her life was the best course for her, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think that internet trolls are terrible.

Relatedly, there is that video going around where men were asked to read terrible tweets to the female sports writers about whom the tweets were written.

  4. Chloe says:

Used Shoes of Prey for my upcoming wedding – such a good idea! Love my shoes.

The Find: Bright and Striped

For the past few years, the wardrobes of many influencers have tilted toward the beige and boring.  I’m all for a good basic, but staple pieces can only take you so far.  Sometimes, you need to wear something that has a little something extra, and this sale-priced tee certainly does.
