Five Under $150: Vol. I, No. One

Apr 7, 2016

New Feature Alert: Twice a month, I will share five pieces under $150 that caught my eye.  It’s a chance to showcase cool, trendy pieces that come in at an affordable price point.  Here are the first five.

1. Mango Welt Pockets Blazer ($59, in four colors) // 2. Topshop N Fase Laser Ghillie Flats ($48) // 3. Marc Jacobs Baker Watch ($146) // 4. H&M Off Shoulder Top ($10) // 5. Madewell Cabana Dress ($158)*

One. White blazers are everything.  I wear mine so often, I need to find a replacement.  This ASOS Collection long blazer is a fabulous piece as well.  I also love the contrasting lapel on this Mango tuxedo blazer.  Plus-size?  Try this Hartwood blazer.

Two. Lace-up flats are everywhere.  I like the laser-cut look of these Topshop flats.  They look even better in black.  The slingback look of these WHBM flats is really feminine.

Three. I am obsessed with leather-strap watches with rose gold faces.  This Marc Jacobs one is cool, but this Nixon watch has a chic minimalist look.  For something truly feminine, try this Ted Baker watch with a pink strap and a mother-of-pearl face.

Four. H&M is the best place to pick up on trend pieces for less.  You can take them for a spin, and if you end up loving the trend spend on a pricier piece.  This off-the-shoulder top is completely amazing.  I’m also digging their slouchy jersey tops for weekends.

Five.*  Yes, this dress is just over $150.  So why is it here?  Because this is the piece everyone is going to want, and it’s going to sell out quickly.  The perfect, beach feel is ideal for summer vacay.  Maxwell’s tie-sleeve dress in pale blue is also a winner.

Belle, can you do a two-ways post on how to style a white blazer? I always feel like I look like a doctor, but I love the ideal of them.

  2. KC says:

I’d love to see an update on outfit ideas for white blazers. I always feel like I look like I’m wearing a lab coat over work clothes.

  3. KT says:

Me too on the white blazers! I have one that I really like but end up never wearing it because I can’t figure out how to style it right. Appreciate any tips!

  4. Cait says:

Could you do an outfit post on off the shoulder tops? For some reason everything in me only wants to pair them with long peasant skirts, which totally doesn’t go with the awesome modern edge of the ones you’ve shared.

  5. Melissa says:

Fourth on a white blazer post. I like them in theory, but feel like a cheesy waiter. Also seconded on the off the shoulder top post. How do you wear those without looking like Vanessa Hudgins at Coachella, or a pedal pusher pinup?

  6. Caroline says:

Yes to a white blazer post! I just bought one.
Also I was just looking at that Nixon watch!

  7. Poor Not-Little Girl says:

Why did you choose a $150 price point and then an item over it? I think $150 seems high, and then that it’s not high enough…

    • Belle says:

As I explained, Madewell has lots of sales, so you could get a deal. Also, this is the dress you’re going to see on all the bloggers and mag editors, so if you love it, you might want to buy it early.

Another month has come and gone, and between a busy work schedule, illness and the search for new childcare, I almost forgot to ask for questions for the AMA.  Luckily, I remembered late last night.  So here we go. I love stocking stuffers.  They are the best part of Christmas.  There’s just nothing quite like an affordable gift that’s funny or useful or chic (or maybe all three).  So here is Part One of my stocking stuffer gift guides, where nothing costs more than $30.
