Three Ways: The Striped Turtleneck

Feb 8, 2016

This winter, I was obsessed with striped, jersey turtlenecks.  This grey pima cotton turtleneck from Banana Republic is my favorite.  But for this set, I grabbed a navy striped turtleneck with a dramatic cowl neck from LL Bean.  Here’s how to style it for the winter-to-spring transition season.

Upper Left, Bag: Dune Dacey Hobo Bag ($89) // Shoes: Calvin Klein Gayle Pumps ($99) // Bracelet: Sole Society Open Metal Cuff ($13) // Skirt: Celine Flower Power Skirt ($376)

For early spring, I love this turtleneck and pleated skirt combination.  The floral print on this Celine skirt pairs perfectly with the navy stripe on this top.  And the hint of yellow brings a bit of color to the outfit.

For something more affordable, this Yuki Tokyo skirt is fun.  I also love this laser-cut JOA floral pencil skirt.  Plus-size?  Try this jacquard skater skirt with a flounce hem.

The red pumps bring a real contrast to the yellow in the skirt.  If you want a coordinating color, try these yellow Massimo Matteo suede pumps.

I added a tan hobo bag for something chic and casual.  I like the details–the rivets, the tassel–and the relaxed shape.  For something more expensive, this Rebecca Minkoff Bryn hobo is super chic.

To style this look, I would roll up or ruche the sleeves and wear a chic bracelet like this inexpensive cuff.

Right, Jacket: Tommy Classic Trench ($85) // Earrings: Louise et Cie Hoops ($29) // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban Original Aviators ($150) // Jeans: AG Farrah High Rise Jeans ($168) // Shoes: TOMS Lunata Ankle Boot ($129)

This outfit is perfect for the weekend.  The base is a chic pair of skinny white jeans and a striped turtleneck, and the topper is a fabulous olive jacket.  Keep the accessories simple and the hair wavy and feminine.

These AG jeans are my favorite, but they’re a little thin.  These NYDJ Clarissa jeans are a bit thicker.

I like this Tommy olive jacket.  It’s sleek with a cool shape and neckline.  This Against Nudity jacket is still my favorite.  Plus-size ladies should check out this drawstring hoodie from Charlotte Russe.

To keep the look early spring and not early summer, I chose these tan ankle boots.  I own these Ann Taylor Darla Belted booties in dark caramel, and I love them.

Bottom Left, Jacket: Turquoise BR Blazer ($128) // Jeans: Factory Denim Trouser ($54) // Bag: Gigi Madison Crossbody ($135) // Necklace: Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant ($79)

Need an outfit for casual Friday?  These wide-leg trouser jeans from Factory are the perfect choice.  If you like designer jeans, Ralph Lauren makes a super chic flared trouser.

The striped turtleneck would look great with a sleek blazer.  You could choose a lot of colors, but this pale turquoise is my favorite.  This red Regent jacket or this blush NYDJ blazer are both lovely choices.

To complete the look, I chose a long pendant.  This Stella & Dot Rebel necklace is my favorite.  For something under-$25, this pave feather pendant necklace is really cute.

For contrast, I added this green bag from Gigi New York.  Gigi is having a winter sale.  They have some many lovely, stylish choices.  This Parker satchel, with multiple pockets, in deep wine is my favorite.

How does that LL Bean top fit? I am between a S and a M by their size chart; which direction should I err?

  2. Lucy says:

Erm, I think you need to switch the directions for these – the outfit with the trench and aviators is on the right and the outfit with the turquoise blazer is on the bottom left. Not trying to be nitpicky, it just threw me off so I wanted to let you know.

NC, LL Bean tends to run large!

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
