Review: Dagne Dover’s 13″ Laptop Tote

Nov 16, 2015

This spring, Dagne Dover sent me their 15″ laptop tote for my review.  I loved it, but it was a little bigger than I needed.  I found myself toting my laptop in one bag and still carrying a purse so that I wouldn’t be the girl at the grocery store with the enormous bag.  So when they offered me the chance to review their new 13″ laptop tote, it was like they read my thoughts.

Like their larger tote, this bag has enough pockets to keep everything organized.  It’s just large enough to handle my essentials and a large law school book.  It also has a separate drink coozie to keep your water bottle/coffee cup from tipping over in your bag.  And it has a separate strap for your keys, so they don’t disappear into the bottom of your bag.

I selected the burgundy color for fall, and it’s a wonderful oxblood hue that pairs well with my fall wardrobe.  The bag also comes four other year-round colors, and eight limited edition hues.

This is a great bag.  My one caution is that if you over pack it, it will get heavy.  The canvas is heavy duty and cleans up easy after spills, but it isn’t the lightest material.  So be mindful of that.

If you’re looking for a leather bag instead, keep an eye out for Dagne Dover’s forthcoming leather collection.  The dark green looks sublime.

Like the bag?  Dagne Dover is offering 20-percent-off for Capitol Hill Style readers through 12/25/2015 with code CapitolHill20.

Dagne Dover sent me a free bag for my review.  This is my third Dagne Dover bag, two were gifted, one was purchased.  All opinions are my own.

how is the shoulder strap when the bag is heavy? does it cut into the shoulder?

  2. Anna says:

Any idea how much the leather tote is going to run? I’ve been eyeing the canvas, but I’m worried it won’t look formal enough for work and I’m a sucker for pebbled leather. Just curious if it’s going to be totally out my budget.

    • Belle says:

The canvas actually looks pretty good. Has the look of a Saffiano leather, if you’ve ever seen that. No idea what the straight leather will cost.

    • Crystal says:

I’m an attorney in an AmLaw 100 law firm, and I think the waxed linen tote looks very professional. I take it every day to work, and I’ve taken it to court, deposition, and on business travel several times. (My friend is a (senior? managing?) consultant for one of the largest consulting firms and a snappy dresser, and she carries hers daily with no reservations.) And while I appreciate we all have different tastes, I also like that I only take one bag every day — to me, it looks way “cleaner” than schlepping a nice purse *and* a laptop bag everywhere I go.

      • Anna says:

Thanks! I’m a little self-conscious and generally like to just have one bag that’s versatile to use almost every day for a variety of circumstances (interviews, work travel, in-session and out). If it gets the fancy pants attorney seal of approval, it should probably be a-ok for an underpaid Hill staffer.

        • Crystal says:

I *love* that I no longer worry about matching my purse to my outfit every day or whether I should bring a purse and a laptop bag (or just the laptop bag, or just one big purse…). This makes life so easy — drop the laptop/files in, take them out, done. Hope you like yours, if you purchase!
And here’s a link, if you decide to purchase, and I get a little something, too! (https://www.talkable.com/x/bszQeJ)

      • Soph says:

Do either of the totes (15″ or 13″) fit a legal size redwell?

  3. Got It At Goodwill says:

It looks lovely and seems very functional, but $250 is more than I’m willing to pay for something not leather.

  4. thb says:

I just bought this bag. I’ve been waiting to break it out and put it to use. I guess the time is now.

  5. Rachel says:

Belle, what do you think of this bag compared to your Lo & Sons bag? Do you prefer one over the other, or do you think they’re useful for different things? I’m (hopefully) going back to school part-time next fall, so I’m looking to invest in a dual work/school bag. Thanks for your thoughts!

    • Belle says:

If you are heard on bags, stick with the Lo. If you need to carry a lot of stuff, stick with the Lo. This bag is for moderate wear as it does get a bit heavier, but it also looks a bit more professional than the nylon Lo.

  6. Elizabeth says:

I returned this bag. The metal zipper was cutting up the edge and metal casing on my Macbook Pro. If you pay $3650+ for a laptop, I don’t want it ruined by a bag!

  7. Laura says:

Does it have feet? That’s my one slightly neurotic bag buying requirement! Looks like a great bag otherwise!

  8. DCgirlinARLworld says:

Oh man, saw this and was hoping for a giveaway… The dream lives on.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
