1) Harvard Business Review discusses what to do when someone asks you for a reference. (Pro tip: Always clear it with your reference before giving out their name.)

2) This tan 70s-style shoulder bag from ASOS is a fantastic choice for work or weekend.

3) How to tailor your resume to suit a job when you have little or irrelevant experience.

4) Have you heard of Society New York dresses?  They are work-friendly and affordable.  This grey elbow-length sheath and this navy v-neck caught my eye. And this contrast sheath dress has the Victoria Beckham look.

5) The Guardian examines consumerism and how ‘buying begets buying.’

6) This Hugo Boss Ipila peplum top and pencil skirt set looks comfortable and chic.

7) Amazon has written a new parental leave policy.  But that doesn’t mean they’ve fostered an environment where people will feel encouraged (or even comfortable) using it.

8) Gilt has some great shoes right now.  These beige sandals are lovely.  But these navy calf-hair pumps, sublime.

9) Five ways to be your most assertive self in meetings.

10) The Outnet has new, discounted DvF in stock. (Love this cashmere wrap dress.) Also, tons of Helmut Lang (I own this jacket; it’s great.)

11) Levo covers the dos-and-don’ts of having a cold at the office. (I keep travel-sized Lysol and Airborne with me at all times.)

Eye Candy.  Just hand over the eye-poppingly gorgeous Valentino satchel and no one gets hurt.

This is exactly what I needed today! I am on the job search and looking at mid-level management. I have to keep on reminding myself that getting a job at this level is not as easy as it was when I was looking for entry-level years ago. Good luck with law school and know that this blog is helpful to many of us career-minded women that follow this blog on the regular.

  2. Sad LOL @ 20 weeks of paid maternity leave.

I feel bad for all of my American sisters because in Canada it’s a year of mat leave and 5 weeks for the father (boo to that too).

I can’t imagine what mothers have to go through to be forced back to work with your baby still barely out of being a newborn. I mean.. give them a BREAK. Unspeakably rough for no reason.

No wonder women don’t continue working and feel disenchanted, discouraged and unable to climb the ladder effectively.

Only very rich families can hire nannies, and/or the executive HUSBANDS have a stay at home wife to help run everything.

  3. Shelley says:

I definitely feel lucky to have been able to stay at home PAID with both my children, then go back to my same job without consequence. I have no idea how I would be able to leave my 3 month old baby.

And those Society New York dresses are very cute!!

  4. Lisa says:

Love the Society New York dresses. Any sense of how their sizes run? Thanks!

  5. Jill says:

I just ordered two Society New York dresses and am returning them for a larger size. They seem well made, but are cut small.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]

The Find: My Best Workout Shorts

For eight years, I have worn the same workout shorts. Every year, an influencer tries to sell me new shorts. I order them. I try them on. They pale in comparison to the shorts I already own. I return them.
