Ask Belle: Holiday Party Dresses Under-$200

Oct 26, 2015

Dear Belle,

My new job requires me to attend six holiday parties this year.  All are cocktail attire.  I need two or three dresses since the parties will have similar guests.  What have you seen in the under $200 area?  I’m hoping you can help me find something different.

Enjoy your weekend! Dana

Oh, holiday party season, how I miss it.  The only parties I’ll be attending this year will require an ugly sweater or a pair of pajamas (don’t ask).  So let me live vicariously through you and pull some cocktail dresses that I wish I was in a position to wear.

I would love to see one solid, basic, black cocktail dress – one that can go from cocktail party to work related semi-formal gala. I know you’ve posted them in the past, but they’re probably not available any more.

Try Rent the Runway! It was made for situations such as these.

  3. Cecile says:

Just a thought – what if you went the Rent the Runway route?

    • Pancakes says:

Agree. Given that you have so many events, RtR would be my go-to solution.

I signed up to be a pro member for the past two years simply because I’m in the thick of my wedding years (late 20s) and have multiple weddings to attend. This is the most inexpensive way to wear something different. Sure, you can’t keep the dresses, but would you really wear them again in the future?

      • Anna says:

After two dresses, the pro membership pays for itself. I got it last year for a friend’s wedding where I also needed jewelry, between the shipping and insurance, it was pretty much the same price. Plus I got a free birthday dress!
