1) Women who show anger are taken less seriously at work — because how dare we express the range of human emotion in our every day lives.

2) This Matt & Nat tote blends masculine and feminine elements into the perfect work bag (big enough for a small laptop and a few files).

3) 15 habits that will totally transform your productivity.

4) AT has some chic utility blouses for work.  I bought this printed button-up, this silk tie-neck, and this pretty pintucked top.

5) Paul Ryan could be Speaker of the House, but he’s concerned it might negatively impact his family.  Why is it so strange to hear a man talk about work-life balance?

6) I am obsessed with this affordable rose gold and gunmetal ring.  For something really different, try this colorful Baublebar ring.

7) Being thankful for what you have can be difficult when life is hectic.  The M Dash talks about the benefits of a gratitude journal.

8) This Marni bow belt is so chic.  For an affordable version, try this Kate Spade belt or this modern WHBM knotted belt.

9) Forbes discusses seven steps to impress your boss.

10) Looking for some cool skirts? Check out this geometric print skirt and this abstract floral.  I also like this affordable faux-leather skirt in burgundy.  Plus-size? Try this asymmetrical hem skirt.

11) Meet the pioneering badass chick who developed the code who put man on the moon and led to the creation of the entire software industry.

Eye Candy. These Moroccan-inspired Noor Fares earrings are absolutely incredible.

  1. I have that M&N tote in Macaroon exactly:

I reviewed it here with photos: Kintla Matt & Nat Macaroon

  2. heatherskib says:

How do you like the Ann Taylor tie neck blouse?

    • Crystal says:

I tried the black AT tie-neck blouse and it didn’t work for me at all–felt thin, not at all luxurious, and wasn’t cut well for my figure. I had recently purchased a cream silk tie-neck blouse from Classiques Entier (Nordstrom) that, while a bit pricier, wears *beautifully* and, IMO, is a much better investment. I returned the AT blouse. If you want good fall-season items from Ann Taylor, I recommend the green or black faux-leather pencil skirt and the Elle black suede peeptoe heels. I love them both (and have them on right now with the Classiques tie-neck blouse)!

    • Belle says:

It’s not here yet, I have high hopes.

  3. N says:

Loved the first article. When my male coworker is in a rage, angry, or even rude, it’s viewed as funny and just one of his traits–and he is even more respected for it. It’s unbelievable.

  4. Cait says:

The first article totally hit home. If I express anger or even just frustration, I’m a “bitch” who can’t “control myself” and “be reasonable”. But if a man expresses these things, he’s “expressing his opinion” and “demonstrating his commitment.” So if a man is angry, it’s because he’s expressing that he cares. But if a woman is angry it’s because she’s an irrational human being. So infuriating!

  5. Jenn S. says:

Echoing the sentiments of everyone else here annoyed with the fact that being angry about something at discredits us. Especially as a woman in a heavily male-dominated industry, as the *only* woman in my section at my particular company, my (now former, hallelujah) boss was really guilty of trying to make it seem as though I was irrational when I expressed anger or annoyance about something that could impact our business – but he could (and routinely would) go on shouting tirades for hours about nothing. Who’s not stable?

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
