Lugging books, a laptop, and all of my essentials to school gets exhausting. When I need to lighten the load on my shoulders, my Lo&Sons OMG is the only bag for me. Made of a durable, lightweight nylon, the OMG has all the pockets you need to ensure you never leave home without the things you need.
When I was still packing the 15″ Macbook, this Brookline tote was my go to bag. And if you’re headed for the beach, or looking for a relaxed weekender, this Catalina is a must have.
Lo&Sons is currently having an end-of-season sale that offers 20-25%-off most of their wares. So if you’ve been putting off buying a stylish school, work, or travel bag, now is the time.
To celebrate a return to school (as if such a thing was worth celebrating), Lo&Sons is hosting a giveaway. The lucky winner can choose the bag of her choice from their wide selection of stylish wares. To enter, leave a comment discussing the one thing you always have to have in your bag. And don’t forget to use your real e-mail address! The winner will be announced on Sunday.
Disclosure: I have an ongoing relationship with Lo&Sons. Several years ago, they gave me a free Brookline. Then, as a law school gift, they gave me my OMG. They have never paid me for my endorsement. I feature them here because I love the bags and think they’re the perfect lightweight bag for women whose professional commitments make them feel like pack mules. All opinions are my own.

Always have to have my day planner and chapstick.
I’ve seen women use these on the DC Metro, and I have to wonder why. They seem incredibly bulky and unfit to squeeze easily between people on crowded trains when there is a lot of flow with people entering and exiting seats, aisles, and the trains. I’ve seen the bags get caught up with moving crowds because they’re so large or the person carrying them doesn’t realize it’s polite to put your large bag in your free hand and not keep it hooked to your arm when trains are crowded. Frankly, I don’t want to be that woman who can’t leave home for 8-10 hours without toting a boulder around, so I won’t be using mine for commuting reasons. All of that said, they are better suited for travel. Or for women who live in wide open spaces.
How else would you suggest that commuters carry their gym clothes, laptops, etc?
Sara, while I appreciate your desire to rid the metro of extraneous baggage, I urge you to consider dumping your own. Many women ‘tote boulders’ around because we have jobs that require us to use (and transport) laptops, files, tablets, and other paperwork. I, personally, pack a lunch every day and that takes up some room in my boulder as well. Do I wish that I could leave my house every morning in a pocket-less sundress, arms and hands free as birds? Yes, of course! But since I’m a normal person, I have to carry some stuff around with me. (Unless, of course, you succeed in your campaign to rid the Metro of bags of all kinds, which is the only resolution I can see working for you.)
They’re awesome for travel, but I mostly use mine as a gym bag. It has a shoe pocket on the side where I can put my sweaty clothes and it looks way more professional than a duffel. After too many awkward evenings staffing my boss at receptions while toting my old gym bag, I took the plunge on this.
Pilot G2 Pens
Chapstick and hand sanitizer. Always.

Lately, it feels like my computer is always with me. But I normally have snacks, a water bottle, hairties/pins, phone charger, and lip balm. Plus wallet, phone, keys, normal stuff.
I love my Lo and Sons bag! I always have phone/wallet/keys/more keys.
Oh, goodness. Choosing one thing out of dozens? I can’t go anywhere without some lip color for fear of disappointing my mother, even cities away, by leaving the house without “some color.” Lately I’ve been reaching for either a peachy-pink or a red YSL glossy stain—stays for ages, bright without overpowering my whole face, not drying.
A tide to go pen! Coffee is and isn’t my friend.
In addition to phone/wallet/keys, I feel naked and lost if I don’t have sunglasses, a few spare hair ties, and an iPhone charger with me at all times. Absolutely critical to my sanity…
An extra pair of contacts, just in case!
I always carry a contact case and my glasses because you never know!

I can’t leave home without a book. The prospect of getting stuck waiting for the metro without something to read makes me panic!
A lip product – be it Born Lippy from Body Shop, Burt’s Bees (tinted or grapefruit flavored..), a colored chubby stick from Clinique or my almost-gone-but-can’t-quite-admit-it-yet Estee Lauder neutral lipstick. Even if I don’t need one, the second I find out I *don’t* have a lip product on me I immediately look for the nearest place to purchase a Chapstick…

I always have a phone power block and hand sanitizer.
An umbrella (for unpredictable New Hampshire weather), my badge to get into the office, and my laptop!
Backup phone charger, lip balm and water (and sometimes a snack)!
Thanks for such a great giveaway, your blog has been instrumental in teaching me how to dress professionally as I’m a recent graduate. I can’t imagine the difficulties of running a blog full time AND law school but somehow you manage! 🙂
I’m never without a small notebook and pen to jot down ideas, grocery lists or to-do lists. Love Lo&Sons, and love your blog!

Cherry chapstick and, recently, baby wipes!
My headphones, business cards, phone charger and a pen
Chapstick, umbrella & my headphones!
My phone charger and antibacterial wipes.
While my boyfriend frequently complains that no matter which bag I choose, or how big it is, it never contains a pen, I would say my bags ALWAYS contain a type of lip balm.
Ibuprofen, peppermints and safety pins! I’m always surprised by how often they come in handy.
Keys!! Everything else I’ve forgotten at one time or another!
I have the TT from Lo & Sons and LOVE it! As someone who is constantly jumping from client site to client site to office, the TT is perfect for carrying everything I need without being bulky or too heavy.
I always have several tubes of lipstick with me. Currently obsessing with Clinique’s Black Honey!
lip balm and my phone!
I always have to have a key ring so 1)I don’t leave my keys everywhere 2)easy to retrieve when I am at the door. Small detail but totally important.

A pen and paper!
I always have hand lotion and a hanger prevention snack!
I always have to have a deck of cards! You never know when you’re going to need to kill some time
This might make me sound strange, but I always have pain reliever of some kind in my bag. There is nothing worse than being at work and suddenly having a headache that keeps me from being productive.
Sunglasses! Always, always, always!
Kleenex and lip gloss or chapstick.
This feels embarrassing for no good reason, but hairspray! Deflated curly hair is a sure sign that it’s late in the day, and I feel like it makes me look tired.
Mega Melon chubby lipstick from Clinique. It’s been a favorite since they included it in the free gift bag a couple of years ago, but on the night of my rehearsal dinner I needed lipstick and my mom handed me hers. It’s been in my bag ever since.

As a student, a data manager and a caretaker to a grade schooler, I always have a pack of tissues in my bag for the occasional runny nose, scrapped knee, or chewing gum before class.

I always have a few dollars in cash on me- you never know when an emergency might pop up. and of course mascara.
Chapstick!
I always have my water bottle with me! Some say you should drink half your weight in ounces per day, though I do hot yoga and definitely drink more than that. For me, being well hydrated makes everything better – better skin, better digestion, less mindless eating because I feel hungry (you’re probably actually thirsty) and fewer headaches!
My wallet and Fresh Sugar Lip Balm.
Typically I have at least 10 lipsticks in my purse at all times.

I always keep a perfume roller-ball in my bag — right now it’s Harvey Prince’s Hello!

Lip balm, a hair elastic and ibuprofen!
I always have a book in my purse; the thought of being stuck somewhere without one is horrifying!

I’ve got my eye on the pearl, even without the leash!
Always: wallet, something for my lips, phone. Usually: headphones, book, gym clothes/change of shoes.
Law school books! I’m currently in my 2L year and always lugging around 5-8 pound casebooks. The OMG would be such a stylish way to show up to class while supporting my laptop, books, and keys.

I always have a moleskine notebook and a pen in my bag!
Hand sanitizing wipes and my laptop!!

Wallet, cell phone, keys – and a travel pack of tissues.
Laptop, planner, and various files from the office. And, just in case, snacks for the kids.
I have gotten in the habit of carrying an extra battery pack with me everywhere, because my cell phone is constantly in use and it drains my battery. My office is really strict about use of USB cables, so I can’t even plug into the computer to charge!
I also religiously carry reusable shopping bags, the kind that fold up really small. I was raised in a household with a bin of crumpled target bags under the sink and can’t bear to toss them out, but who needs a thousand plastic grocery sacks? Gosh – this is a toss up. I always carry a phone charger or extra battery and hand creme. I’m not sure I could go with either any day – My hands are ALWAYS dry (too much hand washing), and my battery always seems to be low at the key moment I need it. So, It would be a toss up between those two. (This bag would be PERFECT to carry both – LOVE IT!)
Chapstick. Always.
One thing I have to have in my bag (i.e. inside it): a journal. Oscar Wilde wrote, “I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.”
One thing I have to have in my bag (i.e. what makes a GREAT bag): Handles that don’t fray/fall apart with use. I always check the seams, the material, and the stitching on the handles. The strap makes or breaks a put-together look!
A little bottle of Advil and my Starbucks Gold card–God’s gifts to the 70+ hour work week.

Must have chapstick and lotion to keep everything baby soft!
I always have sunglasses!
I love taking pictures so you will always find my DSLR and more importantly my selfie stick in my purse. You never know when the opportunity will arise to take a good selfie! 🙂

Earplugs, sunglasses, and sunscreen everywhere I go!
I always carry sunglasses and a small umbrella. I am prepared for whatever weather.
Shout Wipes!
I always have a pen and paper in my bag! Weirdo habit in the age when I can just take a note on my phone.
A credit card!
A book! Usually checked out from the public library. On the bus/metro or waiting for a friend, I’d always rather read a couple pages than just waste time on my phone.
Cell phone with extra charger, wallet, bobby pins, H20 bottle!
Oil blotting sheets (my skin can look greasy by the end of the day!)
Also.. headphones, Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm

Sunglasses! Why is it that whenever I don’t have them, I end up having to spend half my day outside in the sun?
