Am I Seriously Shopping at Express?

Aug 20, 2015

My friend K came to lunch on Tuesday wearing the cutest t-shirt.  It was chic, opaque (yes!), and wore beautifully.  Imagine my shock when she told me that she bough this perfect, drapey tee at Express.

Express’s new One Eleven line offers “super soft” t-shirts that are definitely worth a look.  Some of the styles are a bit out there (I mean, it’s still Express.), but many of them are modern basics that have a place in any wardrobe.  Each piece also comes in several colors.  Here are four of my favorites.

Serious question – what’s wrong with Express?

    • Belle says:

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with it, I just haven’t shopped there since I was in college. I was a little surprised.

      • GG says:

I hear you. My first suit out of college was from Express. I admit though, I do buy a lot of blouses for work from there. They have cute stuff for work as long as you steer clear from the halter tops and mini skirts.

YES! I had this exact experience. I bought one of their trapeze tanks in black and I’m obsessed. I’m especially excited because 111 was my lucky number. 🙂

I love Express. However, I have to ask — I saw many bloggers posting about Express today, and even advertising Express outfits on Snapchat and other social media sites. Was this post sponsored?

    • Belle says:

If it were sponsored in any way, it would be marked with a disclosure. I think they’re just hyping this new collection, and a friend happened to mention it to me on Tuesday. Freak thing.

I almost never participate in those group campaigns, I hate them. #1) They’re so obvious. #2) I don’t like all the rules–hashtag this, link that. #3) I also don’t accept payment for posts. I’ll take a free thing to review or giveaway, but I don’t need cash on top of it. So when brands ask, 99% of the time I say no. When I do say yes, it’s usually because I already reviewed or bought the product/product line and they want to capitalize on that. Or, on the rare occasion, like with M. Gemi, when I know the marketing person and I know they’ll let me tell the truth about the product.

      • R says:

Very strange! Usually, as you said, your sponsored posts are disclosed properly. I just wasn’t sure with this one considering how many bloggers I had seen writing about Express throughout the day.

        Thank you!

Now if only they would stop playing thumping club music in their stores. I can’t be in there for more than 5 minutes. I have no clue how the employees do it.

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
