Happy Hour: For a Brunch Party

Toward the end of the summer, everyone’s budgets get tight.  You went on a trip, the holidays are coming, there are many reasons to pull up on the spending reins.  But since most weekend activities involve spending money on food and drink, it can be tough to keep up your social calendar and save money.

For a while in the mid-aughts, some friends and I had a brunch potluck that met twice a month.  Everyone in the group was responsible for bringing a dish or a drink.  I usually brought scones with jam and clotted cream.  All you need to make luxurious, delicious clotted cream is two pints of cream and a casserole dish.

Taylor Floral Print Dress ($138)

I like a dress with a fuller skirt for brunch.  This floral printed dress is a lovely choice.  For something simpler, Halogen offers a sleeveless fit and flare in several colors.  This short-sleeve Tahari dress in cobalt is another great choice.

Looking for something more relaxed?  Try a printed jersey shift dress from Eliza J (also in petite) or Calvin Klein.

Plus-size?  This Eliza J shift in aqua and navy is great.  I also like this floral flare dress from City Chic.  Petite?  This belted Alyx flare dress is lovely.

It’s going to be in the mid-90’s all next week in D.C. So NO, NO, NO . . . the holidays are SO NOT COMING! (I feel strongly about this).

I get it, it’s still summer. But if you live far from where you go for the holidays, you need to buy that ticket like three months in advance. To go to MT from DC, I had to buy tickets in July or else I’d have to fly into a city two hours away.

I hate going on about typos but it is “reins” not “reigns”.

  3. Mary says:

A group of friends were recently discussing clotted cream and how they wish they could find it. I’ll be sharing this link with them and looking for excuses to make it myself!

  4. Katie says:

I had no idea clotted cream was so easy to make. Game changer!
