1) Six Things to Know as You’re Developing Your Career Identity.

2) This Lucy bag from Matt & Nat has one of the coolest shapes I have ever seen, and it can be used as a satchel or crossbody.

3) New York City-based chef David Chang has published his burger manifesto.  As a lover of all things cheeseburger, I have only one thing to add: Lettuce should never be on a burger, period.  It simply can’t stand up to the heat, and who wants to eat wilted iceberg lettuce?

4) TBD covers how to keep your under-eye concealer from creasing.  My favorite concealers?  This one from Maybelline and this one from Makeup For Ever.

5) Female journalism employees outnumber male ones in only one area: social media. Is this the new ‘pink ghetto’?

6) This $58 scarf from Lululemon is enormous; just like I like them.

7) Two former convicts are helping newly released prisoners adjust to life on the outside.  (One of the most fascinating articles that I’ve read this year.)

8) This pleat-neck blouse from Michael Kors is perfect for work.  Need a v-neck?  Try this blouse from Aqua.  Plus-size? This Vince Camuto blouse is the ticket.

9) Ellen Pao, the former CEO of Reddit, believes that the ‘trolls’ are winning the battle for the Internet.

10) This Tarte lip gloss changes color based on the pH balance of your lips a color that’s totally your own.  Also in a lip pencil.

11) A University of Wisconsin professor tracked down incoming freshman on Twitter and encouraged them to attend other colleges due to changes in tenure.  Not a good career move.

12) This kismet ring in rose gold and black diamonds is my favorite piece in the Anniversary Sale.  Too bad it’s a bit out of my price range.

  1. Monica says:

This is a tragic day: I’m going to have to vehemently disagree with you Belle.

Lettuce, tomato and ketchup are what make a burger, and the science of unwilted lettuce is to separate the lettuce from the hot meat with some thick juicy slices of beefsteak tomato! If you don’t have lettuce you get a soggy bun, and that is the absolute WORST.

There. That’s said, I hope we can still be civil.

    • Monica says:

In all seriousness, #7 is wonderful, thanks for sharing. As a Californian the 3-strikes law and the collateral damage surrounding it is often misunderstood by your average citizen. This is very eye-opening.

    • Belle says:

      You’re dead to me.

  2. TJ says:

Yay, I love Matt & Nat! I buy their bags in large part because they’re vegan, which I know isn’t a factor for you, but in a way that makes it cooler that you noticed/are spotlighting one of their bags!

  3. Jenn S. says:

The burger article cracked me up. Like you, I’m not a fan of lettuce. I will accept it on a burger under the following conditions – lettuce must be fresh, not the pre-shredded tripe that sits there, “sweating.” If it is fresh, properly washed-and-dried, it has a better chance of holding up to the burger’s heat. And cut the damn leaf to fit the burger, we don’t need two inch lettuce margins!

I do have a list of requirements for them – don’t we all?

  4. Jules says:

I absolutely loved that NYT article about prisoners adjusting to life on the outside. Thanks for sharing Belle! Really inspiring.

  5. I don’t believe in this ph-changing colour stuff based on your lips. I mean.. how can it be THAT intelligent?

I’d be curious to swipe that stuff on a tissue paper and see whether it really does change based on the ph balance of a tissue paper, and then a white piece of paper..

I can’t believe that stuff would actually work. It sounds like a lot of hokey to me… but then again I’m a cynic.

    • Anna says:

Doesn’t every color look different on everyone since the color of our lips is different? I’d be willing to bet it has nothing to do with pH balance and more to do with the undertones of your lip color. I guess the only way to tell would be to put it on over lemon juice or something that would drastically change your pH balance.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
