Happy Hour: When Life Gives You Lemons…

Jul 17, 2015

Make lemonade.  Then try to find someone whose life has given them vodka, and have a party. –Ron White.

I need a cocktail, and a pool to sit beside.  Is it August yet?

This boozy lemon slush from Waiting on Martha is the perfect, indulgent summer drink.  And it has just two ingredients.  May I suggest freezing it in popsicle molds?

Gap Panel Maxi Dress ($42, tall and petite)

I’m headed to the lake with my family later this summer (35 days, but who’s counting?), and I need a couple of “throw-on” dresses.  What’s a throw-on dress?  It’s a chic, comfortable dress that can be thrown on over your swimsuit so that you can go into town, to the bar, or to grab lunch without changing clothes.

This Gap maxi dress is a great throw-on.  They also offer this pretty maxi dress is a fun print.  This t-shirt dress from Boden is another good choice (I own it; it’s great.).  And this sleeveless swing dress from Old Navy is another wonderful option.

Want a more sophisticated choice?  I’ve been lusting over this breezy maxi dress from Boden all summer.

Plus-size?  This Night Stroll jersey maxi-dress is on point.

Sorry to break it to you, but if this is indeed boozy, it won’t freeze.

  2. Jean says:

It will freeze, you just may have to adjust the alcohol to mixer ratio. https://www.foodrepublic.com/2012/07/02/how-to-make-boozy-popsicles/

Yeah, but then they’re not as boozy. That recipe is almost half and half and I imagine as it is probably doesn’t taste too strong. Bring that down to a quarter and I just don’t think it’d be worth it.

I think this is a very good reason to forgo the freezing and just drink it right away . . .

I lived in France many years ago. A standard dessert where I lived was a sorbet arrose or soaked sorbet. It was a scoop of sorbet with a jigger of eau de vie poured over it. Quick delicious and worth revisiting. Much less fuss too.

Thank you for posting the Boden maxi dress! The print and fabric remind me of a summery-yet-subtle DvF or Lily Pulitzer maxi, but at a much more affordable price point. I’ve been looking for a lightweight dress to wear over a swimsuit for nicer outings, and I think this may be the one.
