The Beauty Edit: An Under-Eye Concealer That Actually Works

Jul 25, 2024

My dark under eye circles have been the bane of my existence since I was 12. Is the cause lack of sleep? Dehydration? Sinus issues? Stress? Who the hell knows. But there they are, every day, telling the world that I am an exhausted working Mom.

Over the past 28-years (Holy s**t, that’s the right number. I need a minute. Breathe.), I have tried approximately everything to hide my under eye darkness.  No concealer or corrector or miracle cream has escaped my attention.  Every advertised product has graced a Sephora or drugstore receipt.  Some have helped, none have hidden.  But this product, which I discovered by accident, has come closest.

The Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer entered the chat because a clerk at Sephora put someone else’s items in the bag I ordered for same-day delivery.  When I called the store, they told me to “return what you don’t want, and we’ll charge you for the rest.”  Fair enough.

The glittery acne patches and curly hair cream were not on my shopping list, but a new concealer that was pretty close to my shade?  I couldn’t resist.

As usual, I applied the Bobbi Brown corrector in bisque.  This helps minimize darkness, but it isn’t a cure.  And then, I layered on the concealer.

After I set it with powder, I was momentarily frozen in place.  My circles weren’t completely hidden, but they were minimized dramatically.  And the concealer had done some sort of brightening voodoo, by which the skin looked so moisturized and luminous that you barely noticed the circles were still there.  I looked, dare I say, rested.

I have continued to use the concealer for over two weeks.  It is sublime.  It feels light, sets smoothly, and doesn’t appear to crease.  It also covers acne.  And once I exchanged for the right shade, it blended seamlessly.  I ordered three to keep in the back of my fridge, just in case I’m ever banished to a deserted island.

This concealer is the makeup equivalent of promises made, promises kept.  Yesterday, after not using it for a couple of days because I lost it in the bottom of my makeup bag, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror hours after using it and thought, “Wow, this makeup looks nice today.”  It’s all the concealer.  I highly recommend it.  Even if you just need a little boost for special events, buy the mini-size.  You won’t regret it.

Clearly, this Hourglass concealer is a hit! How would you compare and contrast it with legacy recs of Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer and the similar Makeup Revolution Eye Bright?

The key difference between the MIAR and the MREB concealers and this one will be thickness. Those are thinner and buildable. This is a bit thicker, not thick, but thicker than those. I still have the MREB in my bag for touch ups, but this is better. More coverage. Similar brightening.

Was so in need of this rec! Look forward to heading to Ulta to try it on in person to get the right shade. Thanks for the great find!!

Thank you! In addition to struggling with dark circles, I’m now getting mascara rings from my upper lashes under my eyes, right in my concealer. Ugh. Think it’s a dry eye problem– lots of blinking. But I gladly would take budge-proof mascara recommendations
