1) Facing the 2:00 P.M. lull?  How to overcome the midday slump.

2) Oh, hello, perfect $22 tortoise-print flats…come to Mama.

3) It’s official, the backlash against red velvet cake has begun. (Included esp. for Virginia.)

4) This B-Low skinny, black belt is fabulous.  This Express belt has a similar look for much less.  Plus-size? Try this Torrid belt.

5) The New York Times columnist offers thoughts on love, jealousy and open relationships.

6) This card from Sapling really made me laugh.  It’s the perfect ‘just because’ card to send to a friend.

7) 11 Interesting Facts About Being on the White House Secret Service Detail.

8) Hitting the pool this summer? It’s important to use a good sunscreen.  I also cool off and moisturize my face with this cucumber cooling mist.

9) The retail industry is searching for cheaper labor; next year’s styles will probably say Ethiopia and Nigeria on the labels. (Behind paywall, Google the title of the article as a work around.)

10) I love Eberjey’s comfortable, relaxed, slightly sexy pjs.  I love this pretty chemise and this casual pj set.

11) Why can’t we fall asleep?  It’s complicated.

  1. Jennifer D says:

OMG, I love all those sapling press cards! “Belated is the New Black. Happy Birthday” may be my favorite 🙂

  2. Mica says:

Red velvet is ONLY acceptable in cake or cupcake form, with lots of cream cheese and pecans. It is known.

    • Anna says:

And red velvet IS NOT vanilla cake dyed red. Red velvet is only real red velvet when it has a slight cocoa flavor and is made red by the reaction between the cocoa and acid.

      • Mica says:

People do that?! Whoever dyes a vanilla cake red and calls it red velvet should never be allowed within 10′ of a kitchen ever again.

  3. Erin says:

I bought those flats!!! Glad you like them too haha.

  4. Kate says:

I’d rather have a strawberry rhubarb sour cream donut than red velvet anything. Re: #7, I bet that book is pretty interesting. Loved reading those little excerpts!

  5. Crystal says:

I’ve always thought that red velvet was gross (sorry, OINTB, but that assessment includes the icing, too). I’m glad the world is finally coming around.

  6. Amanda says:

Red velvet is simply devil’s food cake with WAY too much food coloring. No thanks. I’ve been boycotting that for years.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
