Anne Klein Faux-Wrap Dress ($89 + 40%-off code FIREWORKS)

If I’m looking for an affordable work dress, Off5th is my first stop.  I’ve talked about this Anne Klein dress before, but it is good enough to warrant another plug.  The material is substantial, feels good to the touch, and it’s one of those dresses that flatters your figure even when you feel like hell after a weekend of over eating junk food.

Other dresses at Off5th worth a look?  This short-sleeve color block dress has a unique mix of colors (good for any season).  I also love this Tahari dress with a bit of flounce in the skirt.

Looking for business casual dresses?  This striped Adrienne Vittadini dress melds a work appropriate length with a fun stripe.  This printed Julie Brown shift would be great with an open-toe flat and a long necklace.

Plus-size?  Off5th has a nice selection of pieces in 14-24.  I really like this abstract-print Calvin Klein in black and white.

Thanks Belle! I’m def in the market for some new affordable work dresses right now. Does off5th have a petites section that I am missing?

  2. Jenn S. says:

I love this dress and really want it – alas, sold out of my size.

Also, Off 5th sucks for size charts. Your store default BS is not helpful, dangit. I had to go look up the Anne Klein chart elsewhere.

    • Anna says:

Wow, someone’s a little cranky. Just because a store (which offers very reasonable prices) doesn’t cater to your every need, doesn’t mean you have to call Belle’s suggestion BS. Off 5th sells probably hundreds of brands. It’s not exactly unreasonable for them to not have a size chart for every one.

And btw, next time you want to say something mean, maybe don’t link to your blog. Doesn’t really make people want to see what else you have to say.

      • Mallory says:

Pretty sure she was saying Saks’ store default size chart was BS, not Belle’s suggestion.

      • Leigh says:

I didn’t read it as her calling Belle’s default store BS, but as her saying Off Saks 5th default size chart was BS…

She usually has great input in the comment sections here; so I think you might have misunderstood?

(Full disclosure, I don’t know Belle, Jenn S. or Anna, just thought I might throw in my opinion here…)

      • Jenn S. says:

Hi Anna – this is a classic case of text not adequately conveying my point.

My criticism was not directed at Belle. I have so much respect for her. Hell, she’s basically taught me how to dress like an adult. So I really appreciate her writing this blog, especially keeping up with it through law school (and now job + school + blog). She’s doing something I know for sure I couldn’t.

Belle obviously doesn’t have any control over what size charts merchants choose to publish – my comment was more of a heads-up for people who go to shop there, like, “Hey, be advised you might want to look this up because the generic sizing the store offers is NOT valid.”

Wouldn’t it suck to buy something based on a merchant’s size chart only to find that it was way off for what you bought? There are so many issues with size charts being inaccurate (vanity sizing) as is.

I hope that clears it up, and that you have a lovely afternoon.

        • Anna says:

Got it. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the clarification. I read the “your” as referring to Belle, not Off 5th, and the “default store” as referring to Off 5th being a go-to store for her, not “default sizing chart”.

And I concur in your respect, I’m debating starting a food instagram cuz I don’t have the patience for a blog and even that seems daunting. Which I guess is why I get frustrated when people harp on a typo or write snarkily critical comments.

On the matter of the sizing chart, I thought their’s what a it more thorough than they could’ve been but I would still take it like a grain of salt just from shopping at their store and others like it. Off 5th, Rack, TJMaxx and co. tend to get the leftovers, odd sizes, weird fits, etc.

  3. Amy says:

I don’t know if it is the cut or the color of that dress but it makes that model’s hips look huge. As a plus sized woman, wrap dresses are my go to for every day work needs, but this one doesn’t seem to do any favors.

    • Anna says:

I think this might be a case of a dress that actually looks better on someone who can fill it out than a traditional model.

  4. Melissa says:

Hey – is any one else having trouble using the coupon code? Thanks for introducing me to this site…

    • Belle says:

It may have expired at midnight. I looked to see the details, but they didn’t ascribe an expiration.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
