Full skirts are a fun spring and summer item.  I spotted this style on Pinterest and just fell in love with the classic elegance.  The photo convinced me that I needed to show a fuller skirt.

For Casual Monday.  If you have a relaxed workday, but still need to be dressed nicely, this is a wonderful outfit.  It’s classic, like something Grace Kelly would wear in an old movie.  I also love the combination of navy with bright green.  Plus-size?  Try this purple skirt from Eloquii.

I chose this sweater from J.Crew Factory, but on second look, it might be a bit a sheer.  This Brooks Brothers sweater is another good option.  And if you’re not feeling solid navy, a striped sweater could also be a lot of fun.

I added the navy and gold necklace for a bit of sparkle that also adds balance to the outfit.  If you prefer solid navy, try this under-$25 Fornash navy bead necklace.

This sleek Aldo satchel is a lovely bag.  And how adorable is this slingback flat?  It brings a great lightness to an office-appropriate shoe.  I also like these J. Renee flats with a bow on the strap.

For the hair, I would wear it down with a dramatic side part and a bit of lift at the crown.  For the makeup, I’d keep it very simple but add a perfect-for-you pink lip.

For the Weekend.  I love the look of a button-up shirt tied at the waist.  It’s fun and playful.  The perfect way to lighten up a button-up blouse.

Chambray shirts look good with fuller skirts, white denim, or shorts.  Plus-size? Try this shirt from Land’s End.  If this Gap shirt is too washed out for you, try this dark shirt from Old Navy.

I added the hoop earrings because they’re a little dramatic without being too heavy.  If you want a smaller pair, try this pair from Argentovivo.

The look is finished up with a pair of nude sandals and a navy cross body bag.  It’s relaxed and simple for the weekend.  If you’re looking for a less expensive bag in navy, try this Old Navy bag.

For the hair, I would wear it in a full, fun ponytail.  If you have a short hair, try this tutorial.  For the makeup, I like a sheer red lip and a nail to match.

Thanks for bringing this feature back (I feel like I haven’t seen it in a while) and while your recommendations are consistently strong, it’s how to style them that is most valuable to me! Yay!

  2. Monica says:

Love your use of Verdant, Spring is sprung! Well, here in CA it’s more like summer lately but whatever. I have a fun Chambray skirt that I think I will use to reverse style with your recommendations, maybe with a navy gingham button up or something. I also love the knotted button up with skirt look!

  3. Anna says:

I’m in love with that skirt! But the price is out of my budget, can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative?

  4. Angie says:

Belle, thanks for bringing back the two-ways posts!

Can anyone recommend a chambray shirt that doesn’t fit too tightly in the bust? I love the look but all of the shirts that fit me in the shoulders and waist gap at the bust or don’t button up entirely. I know the obvious (although somewhat pricer) solution is to size up to fit my chest and then tailor the shirt, but I’m not sure if I want to spend money on tailoring non-work clothing that I only wear occasionally. Thanks!

    • Belle says:

I would decide how much you want to pay for the shirt, then look for one that will cost that amount when tailoring is included. So instead of buying a $60 shirt, buy a $20 and tailor it.

    • Amanda says:

I’d recommend trying J.Crew factory for more afforable chambray (that you can tailor if necessary — would still be a good overall price point).

Anna – I would check online at Asos. Last winter I bought a really cute, full skirt and love it, though, it’s a bit heavy for the summer months.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
