Ask Belle: Graduation Dresses

Apr 21, 2015

Every year, I receive a few e-mails from readers who are completing the next phase of their education asking what they should wear to graduation.  It’s a big day, pricey in more ways than one.  Who wouldn’t want to look her best?

I advise against strapless dresses, because you’ll look undressed in head and shoulder photos.  If your graduation is outdoors, cotton is your best bet (breathability is key).  And don’t forget to think about your feet, you may wind up walking or standing more than you predicted.  I advise against wearing very high heels or new shoes.

These dresses caught my eye as good options for graduation.  Some are bright, some are neutral, all could transition to other occasions like warm-weather weddings or casual work days.

Belle, keeping with the graduation theme, what hairstyles do you recommend to wear with the dreaded mortarboard?

    • Belle says:

Down is usually easiest. Though I have bangs, so I have to pin everything up into a low bun with a side twist running into it.

  2. Charlotte says:

The Halogen Fit and Flare Eyelet Dress’s lining is almost completely see-through. I bought it to wear to a wedding and sent it right back.
