1) The outer doors at several local malls were relabeled; one for women who are “beautiful” and one for women who are “average.”  Most women selected the average door.  Many later regretted it.

2) Looking for a casual tote?  Target offers this stylish, reversible bag for $37 in your choice of eight colors.

3) Eight Questions That Can Help You Make Better Decisions at Work.

4) Bloomingdale’s put their sale section on deeper discount.  My picks?  This funky, House of Harlow necklace, this teal Anne Klein dress, and these tall, high-heeled Cole Haan boots for next fall.

5) Dana Perino discusses why most D.C. men are “undateable.” Sadly, the choices out West are only marginally better.  Unless, of course, you like your men covered in huge tattoos.

6) My gums are receding, and I need to switch to an electric toothbrush.  I’m considering this Foreo silicone toothbrush, but I’m open to suggestions.

7) The blogger at Corals and Cognacs discusses why she left her job to blog full-time.  If you’re pursuing self-employment in any field, the post discusses many of the common joys and pitfalls.

8) The Outnet has restocked their selection of Yosi Samra flats just in time for spring commuting.  I like this snake-effect print and this pale blush pair.

  1. Jenn S. says:

I’m going to be picking up the Foreo Issa (the silicone toothbrush) for my husband who has extremely sensitive teeth. I wanted to do it a couple months ago but was holding out for Sephora’s spring sale, which, fortunately, is soon. 10% off during their Love Note event, 17-20th of this month.

  2. Maddy says:

I have a Foreo Issa and couldn’t be happier with it.

    • Belle says:

Can you give me some more details on what you like about it?

      • Maddy says:

Sure. I have sensitive teeth (partially of my own making from feeling the need to scrub with all my might when I was younger) and the brush is very gentle. I was initially worried that it wouldn’t make my teeth feel clean enough, but I have found the exact opposite to be true. My teeth feel cleaner and look whiter than they did previously. The brush also has a timer system built in that buzzes every 30 seconds to let you know to move on to a different section of your mouth. Also, unlike a lot of electronic toothbrushes, this baby holds a charge. I’ve owned it since Christmas and only recently had to charge it overnight. I also really like the color and how sleek it looks.

  3. Heather says:

I looked at the Foreo Issa too, but the reviews are less than stellar. I ended up going with the Sonicare Diamondclean. I have had other sonicares in the past and this one is on a different level completely. At least 10x better. It is even made of a different material. It doesn’t get nasty and gunky under the attachment like the old ones do. I read a review that called it the ipod of toothbrushes and couldn’t agree more. It comes in black, white and pink.

  4. Thanks for including a link to my post, Belle. So appreciate it!

Been a reader of your site for awhile now — keep doing you, girl.

  5. Anon says:

I’m sorry for having a juvenile mind, but that toothbrush looks like something else…

  6. April says:

Have you tried the Sonicare? That is the brush I recommend to all my patients.

  7. Allison says:

I go agree that dating in DC is slim pickings but I’d like to ask… what would happen to a man that wrote an article that states that the women in DC had “pale skin, and pudgy middles.” It would make me really mad if a guy publicly attacked a city of woman and called them unworthy of his interest and pudgy, maybe we should reconsider treating men that way? You know, the golden rule and all.

  8. jill says:

Big Phillips Sonicare fan. Gentle on tooth enamel, which is why I got it. Brushes are easily available, including with coupons at Bed Bath and Beyond.

  9. Reema says:

Research shows best plaque removal is with rotating oscillating toothbrush heads, would recommend an Oral B with a small round toothbrush head for optimum cleaning. Saying that Sonicare toothbrushes (as mentioned above) are also great but more technique sensitive.

  10. Irene says:

My dentist told me gum recession is not necessarily due to brushing. It can be caused by clentching the jaw. It creates pressure on the gums and causes them to recede.

  11. MA says:

About to start my fourth and final year of dental school so I might be able to offer some insight in to toothbrush purchasing, (having studied it quite a bit). There really isn’t data to support the efficacy of electric toothbrushes over manual ones. For me, I like an electric because it makes me brush for a full two minutes but I also use a manual for travel and touch up brushings (I got my electric one for free as a professional demo In the interest of full disclosure) Companies make sensitive extra soft toothbrushes and the name of the game when brushing your teeth is that if the bristles start splaying: you’re brushing too hard. You should also never brush with anything other than a soft toothbrush as it can be destructive to your gums. I’m not familiar with the brush you are considering but I’ve used both oral b and sonicare electric brushes and liked both.

  12. S says:

I’ve been using my Oral B toothbrush for over 5 years and have been pleased (so has my dentist – no cavities!). It holds a charge for about two weeks based on once/day brushing. It has built in timers to help me brush each quadrant of my mouth for 30 seconds. It’s available from Costco, often with a discount (same for the brush heads). The Costco package comes with two brushes…now I leave one at my boyfriend’s. 🙂 https://www.costco.com/Oral-B-Pro-Care-2000-Dual-Handle-Rechargeable-Toothbrush.product.100120039.html

  13. Alex says:

Belle, have you decided on a toothbrush yet? Lots of great advice so I’m curious what you went with. I’ve also been eyeing the foreo brush but I don’t know if dentists approve of it. Please give us a review of the foreo if you got it. Thank you!
