1) Some tips on overcoming sexist feedback at work.

2) Now that the weather is nice, I want to start exercising outdoors.  I love this H&M long-sleeve running top.  I also love their grey and neon zip-up.

3) A model tried on 10 pairs of jeans, all size 16, and proved that the number on the inside tag does not matter.  It’s all about fit.

4) I am completely obsessed with this eggplant Burberry trench.

5) Ellen Pao lost her widely discussed gender-discrimination suit against one of Silicon Valley’s most powerful companies.  But Elle argues that, in some ways, she still won.

6) I love stylish clutches for evening events.  I love this studded BCBG clutch.  This gold/leather minaudière is fantastic.  Need something under-$25?  Try this blush-colored clutch from The Limited.

7) Fashion Math: 5 Ways to Turn Easy Cost-Cutting Into New Clothes.

8) Looking for a mid-price, lace cocktail dress that’s anything but boring?  This Julia Jordan dress is just the ticket.

I wish there was more consistency with sizing, especially for pants and dresses! It drives me crazy when I’m a 6 at one store and a 10 at another.

  2. Rachel says:

Totally unrelated to anything on the blog, but I’ve noticed that when you click “Next Page” it opens in a new window. It’s a little annoying when you’re trying to catch up on a week’s worth of posts and then you notice you have seven windows open.

    • Belle says:

Working on it. We tried to fix opening external links in a new page, and made internal ones do it instead. Hopefully, we can sort the internal problem out by Monday.

  3. Lexi says:

Re: Ellen Pao- did you see the story about the “Thanks Ellen.” ad? This Silicon Valley paper covers the Sand Hill Road area, is seen in a lot of local restaurants, etc.

    • Belle says:

      Cool. Thanks.

    • Anna says:

Is it bad that I’m really hung up on the lack of a comma after thanks?…Unless it’s a play on words (on grammar?), and it’s as if they’re saying the collective “thanks Ellen”?…Or they’re advanced Silicon Valley types who won’t be constrained by the rules of the past. Oh man, the possibilities.

  4. Jamie says:

I tried on that trench coat at the burberry outlet in Palm Springs and it was going for under$900. The lining is gorgeous.

  5. Elle says:

How have you felt about the quality of H&M’s athletic wear? My gym clothes take such a beating, that I wonder if repeated washes and wear and tear at this price point leaves me having to replace their stuff more often. Thanks for flagging those pieces!

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
