Ask Belle: Warm Weather Blazers

Mar 30, 2015

Hi Belle,

It’s spring. I am so ready for warmer weather but my wardrobe, sadly, is not. I am mainly looking to add a few lightweight blazers in fun but professional colors. I would like to spend less than $100 if possible.

Thanks for your help! Ellen

I keep a number of blazers on hand to throw on over my favorite dresses and skirt outfits.  Here are a few options in both neutral hues and other colors.

Chase Single Button Blazer ($99) // Mango Pale Grey Blazer ($99) // H&M Navy Blazer ($50)

Sleeker, fitted styles are usually better than boxier cuts.  I also prefer one-button blazers, but depending on your figure, two or three buttons might be better for you.

A white blazer is a year-round staple for me.  I like the contrast it provides to black pieces and how it lightens colored items.  Need a two-button?  This Calvin Klein blazer is a solid option.  Plus-size? This UFO textile blazer looks like a nice piece.

Grey is a great color to add to basic black or wear over summer pastels.  This Mango jacket has a nice look, but if you want something with a darker grey, this ASOS slim blazer has a modern cut.

A navy suit is a versatile piece, but you can wear the blazer so much you wear it out before it’s time.  I suggest you have a navy blazer on hand to sub-in.  This H&M jacket is a nice choice.  Need two-buttons? Calvin Klein makes a nice blazer for the price.  Plus-size? Try this Jones New York number.

Forever21 Shawl Collar Blazer ($30) // Nine West Notched Jacket ($60) // Topshop Molly Blazer ($90)

Want to add some color to your wardrobe?  Imagine these blazers in their Easter-egg hues over a navy sheath or a grey v-neck blouse and pencil skirt.  A little color can go a long way to boosting an outfit.

Want bolder, less pastel hues?  This raspberry blazer from Nine West has a great look.  This bright yellow blazer would look great with navy separates.  This emerald-green blazer from Modcloth is also a fun option.

I’m getting ready to start a new job where jackets are required everyday (a big change from my current jeans and tshirt dress code), so I have been looking for new jackets like crazy. I have noticed that the limited often has some fun, bright, but professional blazers for under $100 if you happen to catch a sale. I picked up an emerald green one, a white one, and am eyeing this navy and blue polkadot one as well (https://www.thelimited.com/product/open-front-dot-jacket/2446798.html?prefn1=saleStatus&ppid=c15&start=15&cgid=jacket-blazer&prefv1=regular&dwvar_2446798_colorCode=250)

Oooh love the purple Forever 21 long line blazer.

I know you’ve mentioned white blazers before- but can you give us some more ideas on how to style it? I’m still a little hesitant to try a white blazer- I don’t want to look like I’m in an orchestra!

I hot a bright blue blast from JCrew and a hot pink Anne Klein. Both pair wonderful with blacks, navys, tans and creams.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
