Ask Belle: Weekender Bags

Sep 23, 2014

Belle,

Love the blog! I’m looking for a chic weekend bag for the Fall, ideally under $150.
Something without wheels that I can still easily bring on the plane and not break my back would be great! Any thoughts?

Thanks! Erin

A casual weekender is a great thing to have around.  It’s perfect for quick trips.  You can carry it in addition to a rolling bag for longer vacations.  It also makes a good gym bag, or use it to store winter sweaters in the off-season.

Everlane Twill Weekender ($95)

The Everlane weekender bag is a great option.  It’s a good size and comes in 12 great colors.  My favorite shade is the reverse denim, a textured grey.

Beyond Everlane, Sole Society makes two great bags that have a leather look.  I like their simple vegan leather duffle. (Comes in black and cognac.)  This overnight bag is also a good choice; it has a zip pocket underneath the bag to keep your shoes away from your clothes. (Comes in black, cognac and oxblood.)

Want nylon?  Try these Lippault weekend satchel.

I’m actually in the market for something like this (maybe bigger than a weekender, but not exactly regular carry on size) but with wheels. The only ones I’ve seen are insanely tacky.

    I’m a Target fa.na.tic!! I love this weekender bag! https://www.target.com/p/women-s-weekender-handbag-green/-/A-15295788?reco=Rec|pdp|15295788|ClickCP|item_page.vertical_1&lnk=Rec|pdp|ClickCP|item_page.vertical_1

    Sorry! Typing on my phone

I love my reverse denim everlane weekender!! My one suggestion is to scotch guard it – the reverse denim will get marks on it and rub really easily.

  5. Rebecca says:

I have the reverse denim weekender and love it! I use it weekly and it’s holding up well. It’s small enough to fit in overhead bins on even the tiny planes, and it’s really light so easy to carry.

  6. Jessica says:

Word of warning- I have the second Sole Society bag mentioned, and although I love it, if you don’t have something in the bottom compartment the bag doesn’t hold its shape and looks slouchy.

  7. Jan says:

I’m in in the market for a weekender bag. I’ve been considering the Everlane bag but I’m concerned that it doesn’t have a long strap that attaches in addition to the handles. Has that been an issue for anybody that has this bag?

I am in love with my weekender from Lo & Sons. Plus, they always have great sales!

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
