1) As Jezebel points out, the lyrics to Meghan Trainor’s song “All About That Bass” are a bit of a mixed message.  But you can’t deny the song is catchy.  So I asked my friend and web designer, Sarah, to design something that celebrated the song’s positive message of not letting pop culture tell you how to feel about your body.

2) The popular and inexpensive Street Level reversible tote now comes in even more colors.  My favorite, the pale gold and cognac, of course.

3) The New York Times Magazine has a fascinating piece about the success and struggles of the female cadets at West Point.

4) I have sweaters on the brain.  This chunky, grey knit from H&M is super chic.  This fisherman’s turtleneck from Tinley Road is awesome.  I also love this sweater with open-stitching on the sleeves; it’s a great transition piece.  Plus-size? I love this Olivia Moon cardigan.

5) The 100 Most Iconic Film Scenes of All Time.

6) Ivanka Trump has some amazing shoes for this season.  I love these high-heel slides in black and tan or snakeskin.  Prefer flats?  The black t-straps are so fabulous.

7) The midi-skirt was once a controversial clothing item (feminists saw it as a symbol of repression), now it’s back in vogue in a big way.  And with gorgeous choices like this burgundy BR skirt and this shimmering River Island number, it’s not hard to see why.

8) I love this Jonathan Adler smartphone dock.  It has a bit of whimsy and a bit of chic.

9) Bill Cosby was America’s favorite dad.  (What 80s-kid didn’t want to be a Huxtable?)  The New Yorker has a feature on Cosby the man, the comedian, the legend.

10) This malachite bracelet has me craving earthy, green hues.  For a less-expensive option, try this ring from Henri Bendel that also comes in a gorgeous lapis shade.

11) How to get over that ex...because every woman has one.

12) Sometimes it’s fun to look at gorgeous gowns. This Jill Stuart gown is incredible.  I also love this tulip-halter gown from Halston Heritage.

I’m also feeling the chunky knits, though I haven’t been able to find any I particularly like yet. Everything I tried on yesterday at H&M just looked super frumpy.

  2. Anna says:

#11 is so fitting. I’m heading to a wedding next week where the ex might be, though in my case, there’s zero desire to get him back. It’s just so crazy that he still gets to me when I’m in a great relationship with an awesome guy (going 2.5 years strong) who treats me waaaaay better than stupid ex did. Wish the brain and the heart could just forget…or better yet, not care.

  3. Sarah says:

It’s so funny, I JUST said to my husband in the car today re: the All About That Bass song, “This is a bit of a mixed message..” However, I was referring to the fact that while she’s touting the ‘your body is perfect’ message, she refers to some body types as ‘skinny bitches’. That is so offensive to me. The message is, if you are skinny you are the enemy and a bitch?

    • Belle says:

YEs, she uses the phrase skinny bitches. But then goes onto say that they shouldn’t be obsessed with their body type either, so again, mixed message.

  4. M.L. says:

Could I get some input on this dress, fellow readers? I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger on it because I can’t decide if it would be work appropriate or not…. for context, I’m in court every day – not in front of a jury, though. Some of the lawyers I work with do wear dresses or less formal separates, but as an intern, I normally wear a suit. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

    • Anne says:

I vote no. Lace is generally hard to pull off in a work setting, especially one that skews as conservative as a courtroom.

    • Liz says:

Love the dress, but it’s not courtroom appropriate. I would be just as worried about the impression you make on the judge and lawyers there since those people, not the jury, are the ones that will see you day in and day out throughout your legal career.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

For eight years, I have worn the same workout shorts. Every year, an influencer tries to sell me new shorts. I order them. I try them on. They pale in comparison to the shorts I already own. I return them.
