Tahari Rupert Riding Boot ($149)

If I need shoes, the first place I look now is DSW.  Their selection is so much better than the other discount sites out there.  Because even on a great sale site, I just don’t find the size selection that I find at DSW.

Boots. This pair from Tahari have no buckles or belts or buttons, but they do have a cool, woven texture on the shaft.  They’re basic without being boring.  These basic Tommy Hilfiger riding boots have a small metal accent and come in your choice of three colors.  Have wide calves?  These high-heeled tall boots are awesome.

Prefer booties?  I love both this tan Ciri bootie and this charcoal-grey Betsey Johnson pair.

Pumps. These Joe’s Jeans Lauren pumps are incredible and cost under-$80.  I also like these kitten heels in cognac or black.  But my favorite pair are probably these $79 ankle straps from Charles David in tan or black.

Flats. I like these affordable cheetah-print loafers.  These Audrey Brooke cognac flats are under-$50, they also come in black.  They also have these Steve Madden red, patent flats.

    SQUUUUEEEEE! I love boot time!

But tall boots are tough for me to find because of my ridiculously thick calves.

For any other lades with the same problem, DUO boots has great wide calf boots (but can be very pricey). I found 2 great pairs at Avenue (yes, really) that aren’t real leather, but LOOK fantastic, for under $75.

Ooooooh, love those. Doubt they’d fit over my calves though 🙁

I have those Steve Madden flats in like every color and they’re amazing. I always buy half a size up and then put athletic inserts in them for comfort, because the insole is quite thin.

Here’s an Ask Belle for you … what do you wear those kind of loafers with? Are they work appropriate (I work in a pretty casual setting)?

    • Anna says:

I don’t know about the print, but I have a similar pair of Ann Taylor loafers that I wear around the office when I’m not in heels. They’re more structured than ballet flats, but more comfortable and less severe than pointed toe flats.

Those loafers would look great with a pair of the slim black trousers from a few posts back.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
