Pinterest Mondays: Airy Parisian Chic

Jun 9, 2014

rsz_screen_shot_2014-06-08_at_13148_pm1. J.Crew Silk Blouse ($138 + 25%-off, code SUMMERTIME) // 2. Dusty Pink Midi Skirt ($39) // 3. French Connection Effie Pump ($77) // 4. Zara Combined Office City Bag ($80) // 5. J.Crew Pearl Studs ($50) // 6. Saxxon Wool Scarf ($68)

This week’s look was sent in by a reader and comes from the website Gary Pepper Girl.  At first, I wasn’t sure about including it, given the brogues and the scarf. But then I thought, what a lovely mix of soft, feminine silks and a heavy wool scarf.  Lose the scarf and you can wear it anywhere.  Add the scarf, and it’s a chic choice for your chilly office.

One. Her blouse is the Equipment collarless Ava blouse in the discontinued 3/4-sleeve length.  I substituted a piece I already own from J.Crew, but any ivory silk top will do.  This Jaeger silk blouse has the 3/4, bracelet sleeve.  I also like this under-$75 Brigitte Bailey blouse that comes in several lovely colors.

Petite? This Pendleton blouse is a good choice, as is the J.Crew blouse above (also in tall).  Plus-size? The Pendleton blouse comes in your size as well.

Two. If you like knife-pleated skirts, there are many good, inexpensive options available.  This one from Dorothy Perkins is my favorite.  I also like this breezier skirt from H&M.  I also like this blush skirt from BooHoo.

Three. Instead of the brogues, I swapped in these French Connection pumps with a black and white d’Orsay.  I also like these Elie Tahari Linden pumps with a black toe-cap.  And if you prefer a flat, these Tory Burch flats are a nice choice.

This would also be a great outfit to wear your snakeskin pumps with, as the neutral color palette would complement the lightness of the outfit.

Four. The original photos show the outfit with a navy satchel.  It felt a little off to me with the black and white pumps, so I swapped it out for this colorblock satchel from Zara.  I like the mix of neutrals.  Want to try the navy bag?  Try the navy Zara City Bag.

Five. I own these pearl studs from J.Crew, and they’re a great purchase.  They’ve worn well, are a great medium size and they don’t look the least bit cheap.  And I love the way pearl earrings play with ivory blouses.  It’s like wearing a halo, it just lights up the face.

Six. It was a little tough to find a wool scarf in summer, but this is a man’s scarf on sale at Brooks Brothers.  It’s not as long as the scarf in the photo, but it’s 72″, so it’s fairly long.  If you want something lighter and more summery, I would try this Nordstrom woven scarf.  It’s airy and comes in several fab colors.  Plus, it’s a great buy at $38.

  1. I love Nicole’s style, so this post of deconstructing her outfit is very close to my heart! Thank you Belle for this. I cannot get over her pleated skirt and the one you shared here.

  2. Jamie says:

Any advice on finding a pair of oxfords like hers? I love them but Mui Mui is way out of my price range.

    • Belle says:

I looked around and didn’t see any, but the place to look would be something “hipster-y” like Urban Outfitters.

  3. Joules says:

Love this Pinterest-inspo. The skirt is gorgeous!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
