10th Commandment: 2014 Nordstrom Half-Yearly

May 21, 2014

Today, is one of the best days of the year: The start of the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale.  (Silent dance party.)  And since we’ve been talking about dresses, here are a few that cannot be missed.

Classiques Entier Sunmosa Ponte Dress ($113)

Workday Dresses under-$150:  This dress from Classiques Entier has a great shape, and I love the color.  Shoulder pads aren’t my favorite, but you can have a tailor put in a smaller set to decrease the 80s feel.  And if you’re looking for a basic, it is also available in black.

Sizes in many things are limited, but I found this gorgeous Adrianna Papell cobalt sheath for $60 in nearly every size.  This pleated crepe dress from Papell comes in three great colors.  This green print faux-wrap from Laundry is also fab.  And this black and white Ivanka Trump sheath with a structural shape is not to be missed.

Petite?  This short sleeve wrap is nice for business casual offices.  Plus-size?  This Halogen pleated dress would look great under a black blazer.

Casual Dresses under-$150:  This Caslon dress has a subtle stripe and a slouchy feel (also in petites).  This eyelet fit-and-flare from Vera Wang is perfect for brunch.  This black Three Dots maxi is a great weekend piece.

Plus-size? This Eileen Fisher jersey shift comes in four colors and is perfect for weekends.  It also comes in petites.

Cocktail Dresses under-$150:  This Trouve ponte sheath with cut-out details is the perfect $59 little black dress.  The lace yoke on this black dress is also very cool.  This watermelon-colored lace dress is a good choice for weddings and parties.

Plus-size?  This black dress with illusion details from ABS is sublime, and this aqua Calvin Klein dress is fun.  Petite?  The long, illusion sleeves on this Tahari dress are good if you’re sensitive about your arms.  I also like this Isaac Mizrahi halter in coral, it’s flirty and fun.

I ordered the cobalt Adrianna Papell cobalt sheath, and it arrived yesterday. It is a more vivid blue than in the photo. I was nervous that it was on sale and available in so many sizes for a reason, but the dress is great: lightweight, fully lined and with the built-in bra strap holders. I’m 5’2”, so I may hem the length because it sits just below my knees.

WFH Outfit: Denim and Black

Does anyone really know how to dress for a rainy February? It’s not winter. It’s not spring. Sweaters seem heavy. Just a shirt feels like you’ll be cold. It’s a puzzle.
