10th Commandment: May 12

Seersucker isn’t my favorite look, but it is a D.C. tradition.  If you want to wear it, please skip the treacly, candy-striper pink and go for a blue or grey stripe.  Pair it with coordinated separates instead of matching pieces to make it look chic.

  1. I have not worn seersucker yet..never, dont even own a piece. I am tad bit skeptical to say the least, but may be the paid intern will be my first foray into this trend…

  2. Joules says:

I’ve never gotten into seersucker–it’s a bit too light for my skin tone. That said, that Target blazer is a great find!

  3. I bought some seersucker trousers last year and got a fair bit of wear out of them. What’s I’d love is a smocky, short seersucker shift

  4. GoGoGo says:

I think it’s adorable seeing everyone in their seersucker in DC.

One funny note though–don’t wear it on a picture day!

A colleague wore a seersucker suit on his last day at the office and took a nice formal picture with the boss. He came out looking like he was wearing in a diamond-printed optical illusion vortex suit. Something weird happens with the stripes. You can even see it here on the models a little bit.

  5. DB says:

I just bought a seersucker jacket with a bluish gray stripe, but I’m stuck on how to wear it. I don’t wear white pants (terrified of stains). Could I wear it with black ankle pants? Colored pants? Would a white top work be the only option underneath?

  6. LH says:

Belle, but for those of us you’ve left behind in DC, could you put together a few outfits with a seersucker blazer? I bought a blue and white stripe one a few years ago, and can’t seem to figure out what to do with it other than throw it over a cobalt blue dress.

  7. Sarah says:

I have always LOVED seersucker! I have a seersucker skirt that’s great and a dress that’s seersucker (both in blue). Always get lots of compliments. My husband got a pair of seersucker shorts to wear to a Kentucky Derby party one year and he still wears them…

  8. ~M says:

I wear my blue and white J.Crew seersucker jacket with everything. Navy dress, red skirt and purple top (careful of looking too much like a flag), any solid colored pencil skirt and any solid colored top. I have yet to make it work with a pattern, but maybe someone else can. Seersucker is a must for hot weather, particularly if you have a job with outdoor working events.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
