1. Coach Short Trench ($348) // 2. Petit Bateau Stripe Tee ($100) // 3. Paige Skyline Ankle Jeans ($189) // 4. Arturo Chiang Avia Pumps ($70) // 5. (in order counter-clockwise) Sequin Enamel Bracelet ($28), Moonstone and Gold Bead Bracelet ($150), Kendra Phillip Initial Cuff ($48), and Gorjana Bristol Bracelet ($67) // 6. (clockwise) Rebecca Minkoff V-Stack Rings ($58), Elizabeth and James Windrose Ring ($95), and Melinda Maria Titus Ring ($58)

Today’s outfit was found on Pinterest, and like many images the site, its origins are obscured.  Regardless, I love the easy elegance of the outfit.  It’s simple, stylish and approachable, the kind of outfit that anyone could wear.

One. The coat in the photo is a peacoat, like this one from Calvin Klein.  However, since–despite the snow on the ground–spring is around the corner, I decided that a short trench would be more appropriate.  Need something less expensive, try this $129 DKNY light trench or this Fossil Catherine trench ($188).

Not feeling the trench?  Try an anorak instead.  Madewell has a military-style one in a light khaki, while Macy’s has a $49 anorak that comes in your choice of seven colors.

Two. A striped tee is a year-round staple for me.  Petit Bateau is a fantastic brand that mixes all the best of French style with super-soft jersey.  They also make their signature tee in navy with white stripes as opposed to the top above, white with navy stripes.  Need something under-$50?  Try this $12 tee from JC Penney.

Plus-size?  This Ralph Lauren tee has a great look to it.  Petite?  Land’s End makes a lovely boatneck tee with a 3/4 sleeve.  Tall?  Land’s End has you covered as well.

Three. Last week, I shared my love for the Paige Skyline jean in the Happy Hour post, so I’ll spare you from hearing the love song twice.  If you’re looking for a less expensive dark-wash, ankle-length jean, try these jeans from WHBM or the Pixie jean from Old Navy.

Four. I wore a version of these Arturo Chiang pumps when I was a Staff Asst. on the Hill.  They’re fairly comfortable, reasonably priced and they held up well.  If you’re not feeling red, you could choose the bold blue color or the ballerina pink shade.  Like the red but not the heel?  Try this $30 pair of flats from Zara.

Five.  The stacks of bracelets in the photo are not for everyone.  Personally, I only like to wear bracelets on one wrist at a time unless I’m wearing matching cuffs.  Thus, I kept the bracelet number to a manageable stack of four.  Wear more or less to suit personal taste.

This stack is a good mix of enamel, stone beads (the moonstone bracelet is to.die.for), an open cuff and a chain bracelet.  I love the Gorjana chain because the links are squares instead of rings.  I also like the initial bracelet as a more elegant alternative to the monogram bracelet.

Six. I modified the number of rings, as I did the number of bracelets.  These three are unique, sculptural and versatile.  The Elizabeth and James x-shaped ring is my favorite thing in my jewelry box.  I haven’t gone a day without wearing it since I bought it last fall.

Lastly, the photo has the subject wearing pale blue finger nail polish.  I have a long-standing dislike for pale blue as a polish color, probably because I wore the Hard Candy Sky nail polish when I was 12, and I don’t see it as an appropriate color for my post-grad self.  So I would swap it out for OPI Red or Essie Lollipop, two great shades of classic red.

Aw man, I wish that Elizabeth and James ring came in silver. I don’t like gold, but I love that ring. And I love the anorak from Macys. So many colors!

LOVE this outfit, especially because it’s composed of so many basics. Definitely trying this soon!

Also, I just bought the WHBM jeans you mentioned and love them. I recommend going down a size, though!

My dear departed grandmother told me that only children and whores wore red shoes. I haven’t been able to wear a pair since she told me that.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
