Happy Hour: Drunken Cherry Ice Cream

Last week, I was cruising the Crate & Barrel website when I found a Cuisinart ice cream maker in the sale section.  Given my love of Ben & Jerry’s, I thought, “Why not start making my own ice cream?”

One of the first recipes I spotted on Pinterest was for Savory Simple’s Drunken Cherry Ice Cream.  This rich cherry concoction is made with sweet cherries, cream and Grand Marnier. (photo c/o Savory Simple)  So if you’re looking for a sweet, boozy treat to serve at a dinner party, give this ice cream a try.  It would be delicious with chocolate cake.

James Perse Sweatshirt Dress ($135)

While I was in New York this week, I swung by Saks Fifth Avenue to pick up a replacement eyeshadow palette (the hotel maid threw mine away).  And while I was there, I spotted this James Perse sweatshirt dress.  Now, I love a sweater dress, but a sweatshirt dress seemed like the perfect thing for lazy fall Sundays and weekend errands.

I plan to wear mine over Topshop’s 120 denier tights or my Zella leggings with a pair of cognac riding boots.

I also found this cozy-looking grey sweatshirt dress from Need Supply, though the Perse dress comes in a heather grey as well.  If you’re looking for a high-fashion sweatshirt dress, this camel and grey Carven dress is a stunner.  But if under-$100 is the name of the game, Piperlime has an awesome dress that mixes dark heather grey with black insets.

Plus-size? Old Navy has an inexpensive sweatshirt dress with a waist tie.  Petite?  Velvet offers this great black dress with grey details on the cuffs.

Happy Hour

My husband and I make some pretty good ice cream (if I do say so myself) so if you’re going to start making the real stuff, make sure you’re using heavy cream, *not* whipping cream. The difference is that whipping cream has emulsifiers (namely carrageenan). You’ll get a much smoother mouth feel/end result. Of course it’s ultra confusing that plain ole heavy cream is often still labeled as “whipping cream”. Just check the label…the only ingredient should be “Cream”. I’m in ND and the semi-local but large creamery carries it, so it’s easy to find here…but in the Twin Cities we went to about 7 different places before finding Organic Valley’s Farm Fresh Heavy Whipping Cream at Whole Foods.

Thanks for the Piperlime link. Just what I needed for a fall foliage week-end in mid-October.

  3. Thank you so much for sharing my ice cream recipe! I think we’re neighbors (Bethesda) and I would have gladly offered you my leftovers 🙂

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
