Happy Hour: A Shift in Seasons

I can’t believe it’s September, which means it is also time to discuss fall cocktails again.  (Not ready.)

Today’s concoction, a variation on an Old Fashioned called a Blackberry Ginger Shrub, comes to us from Washington, D.C. blog Julip Made (photo c/o).  The flavors of Bourbon, blackberry, bitters and Balsamic should make for a smooth transition into the new season.  Or at least soften the blow that is the end of summer.

This would be a great cocktail to serve at brunch or as a pre-dinner drink for an autumn dinner on the patio featuring butternut squash and herbed pork tenderloin.

Looking for a dress to wear to such a dinner party?

Ann Taylor Long Sleeve Shift ($98 + 25% off)

It’s not quite cool enough for a sweater dress yet, so why not a long sleeve shift dress instead?  These are great with heels for regular work days or with boots and tights for casual Friday.  They are super comfortable as well, so if you’re not feeling your best, they keep you cozy and chic all day.

I also like this vibrant plum shift from Splendid and this Ted Baker dress with a scalloped colorblock along the bottom. But if you’re looking for a dress that you can wear nine months per year, this blue and white printed piece from Shoshanna fits the bill.

Plus-size ladies should have a look at this awesome cobalt Eliza J dress, while petites can choose between the Ann Taylor dress above and this red Joan Vass number.

Happy Hour

Add to Cart: Five Recent Amazon Purchases

Since my daughter was born, Amazon has claimed so much of my money that I had to buy stock just to get some of it back.  Between the formula, onesies, fruit pouches, diapers, wipes, and ever evolving list of baby development gear, I could not survive without Prime.   My husband no longer notices the […]
