Ask Belle: Belle’s Summer Beauty Buys

May 28, 2013

Hi Belle,

I love the beauty posts on your blog because you don’t rush out to buy every trendy thing on the market.  But if you were going to buy one item for summer, what would it be?

Thanks, Salima

Well, I already indulged in a few spring/summer trends.  I bought a rose-colored blush and Lipstick Queen’s Hello, Sailor lipstick.

I also have a handful of less trendy pieces left on my summer wish list: a highlighting powder from Hourglass (mood/light), the Vertebra Pierre Hardy Nail Duo from NARS and a couple of Clinique ‘Chubby Stick’ eyeshadow pencils for summer travel.

BUT the summer beauty item that I am most looking forward to is picking up a can of The Drybar’s Detox dry shampoo.  The stylist used it on me during my hasty pre-Front Row appointment a few weeks ago, and I think I loved it more than my current favorite, Psssst.  I’m also thinking about picking up one of their blow dryers, since my T3 essentially blew up in my hand.

If you have a summer beauty trend or item that you’re itching to try, leave it in the comments!

I love that Bobbi Brown blush! It can act like a double – blush and highlighter in one. And in a pinch, you can use the lighter shades for eyeshadow. Great purchase!

  2. Jes says:

i love love love the maybelline color vivids – especially the vivid rose, mandarin, and the shocking coral shades. They’re usually $5 at target and there are coupons out. I think its such a great, affordable way to add some pop to your beauty routine without committing tons of money!

  3. Joanne says:

I got a free bottle of the The Drybar’s Detox dry shampoo and liked it alright. But I must say Psssst is far better, which has no scent and a longer lasting bottle. The Drybar brand also can leak and give too much colored brownish powder.
As for Drybar’s Blow dryer, I bought it from QVC in a kit with clips and a round brush. I have never been happier! My hair has never dried so well and fast and the weight of the dryer is fantastic. It was worth the $185 price for the kit and I have owned my fair share of hair tools. It also brightens your blow drying moment to see a bright golden yellow dryer in your hand. You won’t be disappointed!

  4. Erica says:

Would love to know your take on the Drybar blow dryer if you do purchase it – I’ve been eyeing it but unsure if it’s worth the price tag.

  5. Little B says:

Agree with Erica – my stylist says that she uses a dryer that costs less than $30, but I don’t have the same skills. Would love to hear if the ‘buttercup’ works as well as they say!

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
