Faux Pas? The Air Curler.

Apr 18, 2013

I have no idea what to make of this product.  Am I intrigued?  Am I skeptical?  Am I mortified for the people who plonk down $15 for an air-powered,plastic pitcher that allegedly curls you hair?  Am I unimpressed by these lackluster curls?  Am I just blown away that, not only does this product exist, there is more than one version on the market?

Okay, the answer is clearly “all of the above.”

I saw this the other day and was equally baffled!!!

  2. MidwestChic says:

“…just like a cotton candy machine!”

Yes, I definitely want my hair to look like cotton candy.

    Is this real life?

  3. Amelia says:

    noooooooooo!
i honestly thought this was an SNL “commercial” . . . wow.

  4. Amy says:

This made me laugh out loud, what a rip off! Plus, unless you’re six years old, who wants curls like that?

  5. Linda L says:

I saw this commercial with my son the other day, I was laughing too – I want to know what happens to those “curls” when you brush your hair or even if a slight breeze hits them.

  6. LadyMacbeth says:

My hairdryer came with one of these attachments! It’s supposed to make beachy curls. I’ve used it a couple of times– results in frizzy, tangled dreadlock-like hair.

  7. Tsampamama says:

I know this sounds stupid but Korean hair dressers have been curling my hair by twirling it round and round while blow drying for years! You don’t get the tight curls but you do get some lovely waves – if you don’t want them to disappear, you just hit them with some hair spray. I don’t know about that cyclone/cotton candy machine effect with that cup though… calls for a hack! Bet it can be done with a x-large soda cup! LOL.

    • Short & Sweet says:

I do the twirling thing while it’s wet and let it air dry. My hair is naturally curly, but it makes the curls a little more uniform and gives the hair more volume near the crown.

As someone who’s struggled with curly hair her whole life, I can’t imagine why someone would go through the effort of giving themselves curls.

    • Jssaustintx says:

My hair stylist twirls my hair similarly as well to coax my minimal natural wave.

  8. Charleigh says:

As ridiculous as this looks, if it is indeed that easy and I could curl my hair without burning it and it taking forever, I would be on this in a second. Belle — please do a product review. I want to know.

I do wonder though how it stays after it twists. Spray the lock with hairspray before and after?

    • Belle says:

I’m not spending money on this thing. But if you want to and write a review, I’ll post it. I’m guessing the curl doesn’t hold well.

  9. SQC says:

I’m with Charleigh. I will order it and report back.

  10. AnnR says:

AND – it can hold hair brushes on your bathroom counter once you figure out it’s junk!

  11. venus says:

Remington has a product just like this. I did buy it after seeing a blogger’s review on it. It worked great on her and produced somewhat more of a beachy/wavy texture. Unfortunately it did not produce the same look for me. I spent a good 30-45 mins to do my whole head. That is way too long for less than good results. Maybe if you have enough time and patience, this would work for you.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
