Ask Belle: To the Max

Dear Belle,

I was watching Rachel Zoe on TV last week, and now all I can think about is maxi dresses and maxi skirts. Can you suggest some floor length pieces for when the weather warms up?  I’d prefer to spend $125 or less.

Your reaction is deeply ironic since Rachel spends half of the episode lamenting the fact that none of the retailers want to buy the long dresses and skirts in her collection because “buyers don’t understand” maxis.  What do you want to bet the longer pieces sell better next season?

If you’re looking for dresses, this Pim + Larkin frock is my favorite of all the ones that I found.  I liked it so much, I bought it.  This off-the-shoulder eyelet dress has a hint of South-of-the-Border-flare.  The melange print on this striped halter takes it beyond basic.  I also like the breezy, beachy feel of this yellow-trimmed dress (add a long slip for day, otherwise, pool cover).  And this pleated chiffon dress would look pretty under a casual jacket.

Now for the skirts…

Pleated maxis are always my favorite. Victoria’s Secret has one with a side slit that comes in several colors for $70.  This oxblood skirt from Topshop is also nice.  But this peachy Sabine skirt is my favorite, but this mint skirt is a close second.

If pleats aren’t what you are after, you can always try a long jersey skirt.  I like this split back maxi and this long Lycra skirt.
