Belle's Weekly Favorites–February 4, 2013

Feb 4, 2013

1. Cotton No. 2 Pencil Skirt ($110) // 2. Maya Brenner States Pendant ($130) // 3. Parker Silk Printed Dress ($253) // 4. Isa Tapia Lia Sandals ($395) // 5. OtteNY Neo Tank ($125) // 6. Kate Spade Hinge Knot Bangle ($78) // 7. Topshop Patent Kettle Bag ($68)

It’s probably the chilly, windy weather here in D.C., but I am suddenly craving spring.  So while I usually wait until a seasonally appropriate time to start talking about warm weather fashions, I’ve decided to say to heck with it and post the styles that have been on my mind.

One.  I’m all about colored pencil skirts for the coming seasons.  This cobalt is fab, as is this under-$50 skirt that comes in coral, green and purple. Banana Republic also offers a skirt in goldenrod and pomegranate for $89.  Plus size? Jones New York has a pink pencil, and Calvin Klein offers a cobalt one.

Two. Want to wear your home state love around your neck?  These Maya Brenner pendants are truly adorable.  Bauble makes every state, D.C. and Puerto Rico, they also make them in silver.  Like the idea, but looking to spend less money?  Try these wire pendants from GaugeNYC, or these ones from Kris Nations.

Three. Fabulous. That’s the only word I can find to describe this dress.  I love the geometric print and the bright colors.  Sure, it’s not work appropriate, but I could find a few al fresco dinners and cocktail hours to wear this dress to over the summer.  I also like this green geometric print dress for $119, and this tribal print dress for $30.  I also liked this sheer blouse with a bit of mint and coral in the print.

Four. These cheery ankle strap heels would make a fun addition to a spring wardrobe.  I also recommend these nude Alexander Wang pumps, but if you need something less expensive, these blue slingbacks are under-$20.

Five. A silk tank with a substantial strap is a great summer staple.  You can wear them under suit jackets, cardigans or on their own.  If you’re looking for something a bit less expensive, this tank is $68 and this one with a bit of ruffle is $59.  Plus size?  Try this Joan Vass tank for $50.

Six. Hints of sailor are always popular for the warm weather months, and this year, they’ve crept into the jewelry drawer.  This double knot bangle with pave stones is also lovely, as is this double bangle with scattered knots.  Prefer earrings?  These Kate Spade studs are adorable and under-$50.  I also like this simple knot ring for $85.

Seven. The pop of neon on this patent bag is a great way to work a bit of color into an otherwise bland, taupe tote.  If you have a bit more money to spend, this Milly bag mixes black, white and bright pink.  And if you prefer to contain your bits of color to the inside of your purse, this DvF wallet is a great buy at $65.

    RE: #2

I got this necklace for Christmas: https://www.etsy.com/listing/84334041/alabama?

She also does all the states. I love it and wear as frequently as possible (even though I don't work in a home state office anymore!).

could you do a 2-ways post for the cobalt skirt? i bought it the other and could use some styling help!
    Thanks Belle!

    That. Dress.

  4. EmZ says:

Does anyone have experience with the Halogen skirts Belle linked to in #1? The price is certainly great!

  5. B says:

I have a friend who creates the “outline” necklaces as well. For anyone interested in the DC outline or DC heart (or custom), check out – https://www.lovelorimichelle.com – she is locally based, too.

  6. Lexi says:

Thanks for including some great plus size options!

  7. SK says:

@EmZ – The Halogen skirts are great – super comfortable and really high quality for the price. Just be sure to size down!

  8. L says:

I own a couple Halogen skirts and I love them. Easy to wear, fabric is nice and soft and I think the quality is good. It's not wool though…more of a polyester fabric but still looks professional and nice. Go for it. If you aren't happy, Nordstrom has a great return policy so you can return it.

The Find: An Affordable Work Dress

This winter was particularly hard on my psyche, on my self-esteem, and on my waistline. As we move into spring, I need to make a plan for how I am going to dress this additional weight over the months of work that it will likely take to shed it. So I was so glad to […]
