Happy Hour: Bring on the New Year and the Sequins

Dec 29, 2012

A few years ago, I hosted a small New Year’s Eve get together in a very small college apartment.  Everyone got really dressed up (well, as dressed up as 21-year-olds get) and we spent the evening serving ourselves from a champagne bar stocked with fruit juice, mixers and whatever champagne Costco was selling by the case for cheap.

The details of that evening beyond the above description are understandably fuzzy.  Luckily, our dear friends at The Kitchn have a how-to guide for creating your own festive champagne bar.

The Kitchn offers many helpful hints and recipes for creating a champagne bar including which mixers work best, which garnishes to buy, etc.  This would also be a great idea for a bridal or baby shower.  So what to wear on New Year’s Eve?

BCBG Sequin Dress ($428)

Love. Love. This Dress.  It’s very art deco movement meets Vegas showgirl, but in a good way.

The ability to wear sequins with reckless abandon is one of my favorite things about New Year’s Eve.  Here are some dresses that really sparked my fancy.

If you prefer to dress conservatively or your a little older, this David Meister cap sleeve dress is lovely.

Plus size? This Aidan Maddox rose gold dress is awesome and this Coldwater Creek sequin sheath comes in both black and gold for under-$150.

Looking for something that’s a bit more fun? This one shoulder minidress in pewter sequins is sultry but not overly revealing.  This blouson dress is under-$100, but there aren’t many sizes left.

Want sequins, but less?  This dress has sequin sleeves for under-$100.  And this dress has a sequin bodice with an overlay.

I hope all of you have a safe and Happy New Year!

xoxo

Eeeeek, I really like that dress in theory but it seems to put a huge bulls eye on the belly area…an area that's a problem with tight dresses to begin with.

That Aqua dress is great 😉

I love the aqua dress too. I wonder if a cheap clothing store like H&M or Forever 21 would have something similar– I'm not willing to spend much on something I'll probably only wear once.

The dress in the picture is so red carpet worthy. Celebutards should be as wise as you are, Belle.

Just a note (not trying to be grammar police, but it's an easy one to learn/fix!) it should be “if you're older” not “if your older”. Your is for possession, as in, I borrowed your scarf. Whenever I'm writing either, I check because it's such an easy mistake to make. Thanks for your blog!

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
