The weather in D.C. has turned cold and rainy, and I couldn’t be more unhappy about it. This misty, not-quite-rain is my least favorite weather. It ruins the hair, it ruins the makeup and makes everything damp and soggy. Blech.
Anyway, this also means that it’s rainboot season. The choices below are simple and black, but if you prefer to add a little whimsy to your rain gear, I won’t balk. Who doesn’t need a little pick me up on an otherwise dreary morning? I kind of adore these Joules Wellies with the bow back.

I find Hunters to be enormous on me and hideously uncomfortable on top of that. Does anyone recommend any other brands for narrower calves? Should I just splurge on Burberry?
Has anyone else had problems with the heels of their hunters wearing down quickly? Any solutions?
I just got these boots in green and adore them. I think they are cuter than hunters, cheaper, and not quite as big. They have a gold zipper down the back and look just like riding boots! https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shoes/boots/PRDOVR~17967/17967.jsp
Couldn't resist the bows on the Joules wellies – just ordered them in navy!
I have very narrow calves and love these

Thanks for the narrow boot tip. Any tips on brands that have a narrower opening for regular boots? I bought these last season (https://www.balenciaga.com/en_US/shop-products/accessories/women/shoes/classic/balenciaga-brogues-high-boots_804421126.html#!products}}) but would love some options in a lower price point.
Belle – do you still wear/have your Burberry boots? I have the same pair and have the hardest time making outfits with them on rainy days. Just always all black, because the boots are so busy…. Which can get boring after several days of bad weather in a row.
AD: I do, but I also bought a pair similar to the Hunters in this set. It is a bit of a challenge to make the plaid work with everything.
Hi Belle!
First, love your blog. So many great outfit ideas!
Second, I just moved to SF and am facing my first rainy winter. I'm wondering what the wet weather etiquette is for rain boots and business environments. Do you bring shoes to change in to? Do you wear yours all day? I have two pairs of fun boots but invested in a pair of wedge Hunters that I can actually see wearing beyond the commute.
Any tips would be delightful and appreciated.
