Clockwise from Top Left, Scarf: Large Wrap similar (Nordstrom, $249) Sweater: Maison Martin Margiela Wool Cardi ($408) Tee: Tissue Tee ($27) Skirt: River Island Leopard Skirt ($38) Bag: Liquorish Doctor Bag ($62) Belt: Black Bar Belt ($28) Bracelet: Classic Link Bracelet ($88) Bracelet: Kors Deco Link Bracelet ($175) Ring: Satin Gold Flower Ring ($55) Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs Petite Round Sunnies ($98)
I chose this outfit for two reasons, a) I love how cozy and comfortable it looks and b) I like that you could swap out the leopard skirt for a pair of jeans or camel trousers or colored pants and have another great outfit. I also love how chic it looks even though the pieces (with the exception of the aforementioned leopard skirt are pretty basic).
Also, this outfit illustrates a simple but important fashion lesson: necklines look best when they match. Here, we have a v-neck tee and a v-neck cardigan. So before you wear that crewneck tee with your v-neck cardigan, ask yourself, would this cardi look better v-neck? The answer is very likely yes.
As for the leopard skirt, if you want to wear one you need to keep the rest of the pieces simple. This outfit mixes a palette of neutrals, which works well. But you could also try a teal peplum top if you wanted to push the envelope a bit.
If you really need a pop of color, like I-can’t-live-with-all-this-brown need, try a red handbag instead. And as for the shoes, I would recommend black booties or chocolate brown pumps.
I love this entire outfit– especially the wrap! Gorgeous for fall.
Belle, this might be one of my favorite posts. So simple, so chic, so comfy, which is exactly how I like to dress. Most of these pieces are affordable, too. Thank you, as always, for lovely lunchtime reading!
This whole look is amazing. I don't know how I've never noticed that about matching necklines, but thank you for saving me from another fall/winter of neckline horror!
This is beautiful, but the sweater is sold out in all but large sizes. Any ideas for similar?
Betsy, how about this cardi from the Limited? It doesn't belt it, but you're belting it anyway. https://ow.ly/dFhjy
I love that skirt. I have a J.Crew Leopard just like it.
I'm sure we've talked about this before, but is that skirt office-appropriate?
Sarah: Depends on the office and the day of the week.
Belle, re-iterating what CE (above) commented – I also had no idea about the matching neckline thing. Perhaps you could incorporate more fashion “rules” like this when possible. Thanks!
