Inside the reader mail bag there are questions about summer beauty, hiring a personal shopper, navigating a sudden breakouts, and more. Let’s dig in!
And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here. Â (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
Okay, these dresses are cute, BUT the whole drop waist thing reminds me of two things – middle school and a flapper costume. How do I wear one and not feel like either of those?
The style in the middle was “in” in 1983-4-I know because I had one. I used to do my own dressmaking and made it myself. I now wish I had kept it as it was so much better made than most things you can buy today, fit properly, and was a Liberty cotton. Fabric of such quality can hardly ever be found today. That said, I dont think I want to wear the style the second time around as I am much curvier than I was then, and look better in fitted pieces. Item 2 might work with a skinny belt.
I just found your blog yesterday, and i love it! I was so disappointed, however, to see this post this morning… A drop-waist dress!? Really? Way too juvenile. Especially for the Hill. Go back to your classic style!
Wow, I don't think I would judge a single blog post so quickly if I were a brand new reader. In any event, I would love to see/hear how you would style these Belle, and how they would work on different figures, if at all.
I personally love this style, especially the DvF version (of course the most expensive one!). Great for those days when you are feeling a little bloated and just don't want to have to wear a belt with a dress. Also, the 1920s are having a moment, which is nice to see. I think you can just wear these with flats and a normal hairdo, and channel the '20s rather than look like you are a flapper.
The middle dress was actually posted/worn today by one of my favourite bloggers, This Time Tomorrow! While I agree that it's not super professional looking, if you wanted a look at how she styled it, check her out! Her other outfits are also always fun too 🙂

Let me clear up some confusion. In no way did I mean for people to see the dresses above as work attire. They're party dresses.
If “party” = weekend BBQ. Also, my 2 year old has a dress that looks like the second dress. Awesome on her. Not so much for her mom.
I just bought one of these dresses! It's all black and pretty short on me, even though I'm only 5'2. I'm wearing it to a party this weekend with layered long necklaces, and black booties. I didn't feel juvenile one bit when I put it on, I felt super sexy!!! Great party dress.
