Happy Hour: Watermelon Margaritas

Jun 22, 2012

Watermelon is the perfect summer food.  It comes in its own wrapper.  It’s deeply refreshing.  And it’s fruity without being too sweet.  Could it be any better?

Maybe if Martha Stewart was involved.

Oh, wait, she is.

Martha Stewart’s Tequila Soaked Watermelon Wedges

The instructions can be found at the link above, but let me simplify it for you.  Slice watermelon.  Make margarita-like liquid.  Soak sliced watermelon in said liquid, until the booze is absorbed.   Sprinkle liberally with coarse, flaky salt.  Garnish with lime if desired. Devour in a controlled environment where driving will not be necessary.

Genius.

Feel the Piece Jersey Dress ($137)

I believe the watermelon slices would be the perfect food for a hot July barbecue.  So why not don a hot pink maxi dress, pull up a lounge chair and indulge?

Happy Hour

Vodka watermelon is popular where I live. Cut small, circular hole in whole watermelon. Plug hole with mouth of full bottle of vodka. Sit watermelon in fridge so that vodka bottle is upside down. Let vodka slowly drain into watermelon as it chills overnight. In the morning – vodka bottle is empty and vodka is absorbed into watermelon. Remove bottle, slice, and serve.
