10th Commandment: June 21

Jun 21, 2012

It’s the first day of summer! Yeah, not nearly as exciting if you’re no longer of school age.  But there’s no reason why we can’t celebrate in our own way.

Twist Bandeau One-Piece Suit (J.Crew, $82)

Swimsuits are a great way to take advantage of a trend.  Whether you like chevrons, tribal prints, fringe or neon, you can indulge in a reasonably priced swimsuit, wear it for one season and then retire it to the back of your dresser when the weather turns cold.  This year, I’m thinking about going with a slightly retro one piece.

And the best part of a strapless suit? No tan lines.

If you need some advice on the best style of suit for your figure, you should read this article from Shape.

I have this bathing suit! I got it on sale last Fall for $30. 🙂

  2. Heather says:

I got this bathing suit last year in navy at the Lynchburg warehouse (happiest place on earth) for $10. It's my favorite bathing suit of all time… I swear by one pieces now.

  3. eduncan says:

I have this suit too- it is amazing! It wears so well, keeps shape, and has interior boning so you don't have to worry about loosing it in the ocean!

  4. Shannon says:

For retro one-pieces, I'm a fan of this suit from Target: https://www.target.com/p/merona-womens-shirred-1-piece-swimdress-assorted-colors/-/A-13720977

I have it in red and it's retro and super comfortable.

  5. K says:

This looks like the bathing suit from hell for anyone who's not stick-figured.

  6. Caroline says:

K, I'm hourglass-shaped and it's actually pretty flattering. As a matter of fact, a stick-figured person couldn't wear this because the top part is generously sized (I know, it doesn't look that was from the picture, but trust me). My hips and thighs are a little bigger than I'd prefer, and the top part balances it out nicely. You can't get away with much of a belly in this suit, though.

  7. JB says:

I have a similar suit from last year that is still my favorite. Not only is it extremely comfortable, but I am more relaxed wearing it than a two piece because there is less opportunity for things to fall out. I have an hourglass shape but have seen similar suits on all body types and I think it is universally flattering.

  8. K says:

This is really cute, but it seems like this swimsuit would pull down when you sit or move your torso. Maybe the interior boning keeps it up?

  9. eduncan says:

K- Exactly. It doesn't move around when you wear it, which is so nice to not be pulling it up all the time.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
