The Perfect Bag Organizer for Cluttered Purses

Mar 1, 2012

As busy, professional women, we tend to carry purses filled to overflowing with essentials.  While I try to pack light as often as possible, sometimes I just don’t have that option.  And nothing annoys me more than when I have to go spelunking in my cavernous purse looking for my keys, phone, breath mints, etc.

My Mother and I constantly talk about how we wish quality bag makers would put more pockets in their purses.  But since most of the fashion industry has decided that form and function are mutually exclusive constructs, we end up buying great looking bags that quickly turn into cluttered, chaotic messes.

The bag organizers above are from Invite.L and they keep any medium to large bag perfectly organized.  They would be great for trips, diaper bags, students, lobbyists who spend lots of time away from their desks or any woman who needs to carry a lot but want’s to keep it organized.  They also come in a few colors that are “guy appropriate,” so if your man carries a lot of tech gear, this might be a great gift.

While I’m not super excited about the material or the colors (what would a girl have to do for black? or leather?), they certainly do the job.  But at just $25 to $40 a piece, I’m willing to be a little less particular about aesthetics since it will be inside the purse, mostly out of sight.

And the best part? If you regularly switch purses (like yours truly), you can move all of your essential from one bag to another without hassle.  This is especially helpful to those of us who are forgetful and might, say, leave her umbrella in her other purse on a rainy day.

If you have a favorite bag that doesn’t have a lot of storage, these bag organizers from Invite.L could be a great help.  I picked one up in the grey for my Rebecca Minkoff MAB, and I can’t wait until it gets here.

I have a small purse and I still have to dig around for 5 minutes to find my keys. It's just a purse problem.

  2. Mary says:

Oh wow thank you! I need one of these! My bags are messy!

  3. CatG says:

Difficulty: Those bag organizers are heavy. Which is why I never use the one I have.

  4. L says:

I'm with you – I hate how disorganized large bags can be. I'm a huge fan of the “Grid-It” organizers. If you haven't seen them you should check them out (https://www.cocooninnovations.com/grid.php). They are lower profile than the Invite.L, which helps when I'm trying to cut down on bulk!

any chance you can do a post or have done a recent post on a good work bag that can also carry a laptop? Or maybe a feminine briefcase? Any ideas are appreciated!!

  6. Belle says:

CatG: Really? They look like they're made out of the same light fabric as a Longhamp. So I wonder if they're heavy or if having things organized causes women to over pack?

  7. Moose says:

CatG is right. I spent about $50 on a nice one but because of the heft I never use it. They might look light, but they have cardboard inserts to give them structure; and leather, obviously, is heavier.

I am a fan of stashing multiple smaller mesh cosmetics bags to sort lip glosses and sticks from mints from meds from pens. Easy to transfer from purse to purse but very little added bulk.

  8. MA says:

I actually have a Coach diaper bag that works well for laptop and essentials. I do not, however, work on the Hill, so I can't comment on its appropriate-ness (only its functionality!).

  9. CatG says:

Belle: Yeah, if you use it, you will notice the difference. I'm not sure about over packing, but I've just been going the minimalist route lately anyway. They problem is if you already have a medium/large leather bag, you will probably find it's too much, (for daily use) unless you carry very little, in which case you don't really need it anyway. I had the same thought as you when I first saw those things, and rushed out to buy it, but in the end, I decided I was better off without. It might make sense for a smaller or light canvas bag though.

  10. Crystal says:

I dont know about the rest of them but the dual Bag in bag is only 4 oz according to the webpage specs.

  11. VA says:

I didn't want anything quite so industrial-looking, so I have a small cosmetic bag that works to keep the messier items contained in my purse. I keep mints, pens, a moleskine, extra ponytail holders/bobby pins/lip gloss, headphones, advil – anything that has a tendency to roll around or get tangled – in there, which makes it easy enough to switch purses. It's not quite so self-contained as the pouches in your post, but it's a good solution for me.

  12. Heatherskib says:

I second the request for laptop sized bags or geminine briefcases. I've been using my ultimate tote by whaksak (I Frequently play tennis after work and carpool with my tennis partner to/from matches) but sometimes I need something more elegant. If I don't get a solution soon- I may end up getting a second bag in blackjack. the one I have now is uptown girl.

  13. M says:

I haven't been able to find a purse that could fit all of my things in an organized manner and also fit my laptop. I have a 13.5″ laptop that I carry in this laptop bag https://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666151155&tab=featuresTab at the sony store in pentagon city they had a few colors so mine is purple on one side and black on the other. it's reversible so i keep the black side facing out. it has a small front pocket i can keep the charging chord and wireless mouse in. Then i just carry my regular purse.

    where do I find these?

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
