Happy Hour: Blackberry & Blue

Jan 6, 2012

Sachin & Babi Belted Crepe Gown (TheOutnet, $238)

I love this dress.  It’s perfect for D.C. events because even formal parties are such a mish-mash of evening, cocktail and business attire that I’m always reticent to go all out.  This dress is the perfect mix of relaxed and elegant.

This dress really is for smaller busted ladies, but this navy jersey maxi has a similar look and a style that would be more flattering on a well endowed woman.

Midnight Rose Fizz

Belvedere Black Raspberry vodka

Rose Champagne any kind

Dash Peychaud bitters

Fresh blackberries
Add 3/4 ounces of the vodka, three blackberries and the bitters to a cocktail shaker.  Muddle.  (If you don’t have a muddler, the handle of a spatula works.) Strain concoction into a champagne flute and top with rose.
I like this cocktail because it’s not too sweet.  I also like it because there aren’t many ingredients.  Sometimes cocktail recipes look more like expensive shopping lists than a tasty libation.

Happy Hour

Such a lovely dress plus a delicious and perfect drink. Oh, what a wonderful night it would be if you wear that dress.

I love the simplicity and the elegance of that dress…and what a beautiful color!

I love this dress! I might buy it–it looks to be of sufficiently substantial weight that it would be possible just to wear silicone nipple covers, and the color is too awesome to pass up.

    What shoes would you wear?

Nora Ephron was right: I feel bad about my neck. As I move through my forties, the creases have turned into chasms. The skin sags like a pair of sweatpants with aging elastic. It’s not great. But it’s just a natural part of getting older. Over the past year, it feels like I’ve tried every […]
