BPGP: Belle Recommended, Belle Approved

Nov 7, 2011

I review a lot of products for the “Beauty Product Guineau Pig (BPGP)” column.  Products that I love.  Products that I like.  Products that were a complete waste of money.  And with all these reviews, it can be tough to discern which of the products I truly believe are the best.

To solve this product overload, I created a board on Pinterest called “Belle Recommended, Belle Approved.”  It features the products that I use religiously.  The products that I buy for my friends and family.  The products that I recommend to complete strangers in Sephora.

Seriously, I’m the crazy stranger who walks up to you and tells you to try something else.

So if you ever think, “I wonder what product Belle uses?,” you can find the answer on this Pinterest board.

Speaking of products recommended by you, I recently tried Pssssst! dry shampoo for the first time and liked it very much. I was so impressed and thankful for the recommendation. However, only three uses in, the aerosol sprayer stopped working and the can depressurized. A quick review search on Amazon showed me that well over half of Pssst! reviewers have experienced this problem too. I now have a mostly-full but completely useless product, and it doesn't seem to be an isolated issue. I'm disappointed and won't be purchasing the product again; have you experienced this issue? Do you have enough Twitter-power to make a note of this to the Pssssst people and get them to address what is clearly a big problem with their packaging?

  2. Belle says:

I'll see if the company is on Twitter, but I've never had that problem with Pssst. They just changed their can design though, so maybe it's related to that.

Oh, yes. I LOVE trying out new beauty products and I've been needing to get afew things anyway. I might pick up a few things on your list. Thanks.

It's like you read my mind! I was in Bed, Bath & Beyond on Sunday trying to remember a hair conditioner you recommended a while back and could not find it. I've already bookmarked this on my iPhone!! Now, just have to figure out how to actually get reception in the store so I can look it up…

That Fresh lip treatment is my favorite piece of makeup. Although, I prefer “Rose.”

  6. S says:

I've had that issue not with Pssst, but with another dry shampoo. Wonder if it's something in the product that clogs the aerosole. I luckily still had my receipt and just took it back to the store. I would try that if you can find the receipt! And if not, maybe you could take it back and ask for an exchange.

  7. CynthiaW says:

I've had that problem with dry shampoo, but not with Psst before -and it was a much more expensive brand as well. I've found two things that can cause it – one, the hole gets clogged and has to be rinsed out. Second, I've had more problems with cans ordered through the mail and presumably shipped via air than cans that I bought in the store that were most likely shipped ground.

I've never had one depressurize though – I'd see if they'd take it back.
