The 2011 Emmy's: The Almost-Worst Dressed List

Sep 19, 2011

This is the “Almost-Worst Dressed List” because there were so many worst dressed looks, that I had to separate the not good from the truly terrible. Definitely not the list they were shooting for, but it could have been worse. Feel free to breathe a sigh of relief.

Jennifer Carpenter in Tony Ward

I usually love the gowns that Jennifer Carpenter chooses, but this one looks like it belongs on a Vegas showgirl.  However, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out why she chose it.

After all, when your husband/co-star runs off with a younger woman/co-star after you stuck by him through cancer, you want to make sure that you show him what he’s missing.  So you flash a little leg, invest in a spray tan and highlight your freshly augmented bust.

I’m not hating.  Plastic surgery is a personal choice.  And given that she was less than an A-cup before, her plastic surgeon deserves an award because if I didn’t know better, I would think those were natural.

Olivia Munn in Carolina Herrera.

Another dress that doesn’t fit.  It’s tight in all the wrong places and loose in all the other places.  I also can’t tell if that is the world’s worst wrinkle at her knee, or if the dress just isn’t flattering.

Dianna Agron in Roksanda Illincic

At least this dress fits, but the cut just isn’t flattering.  You cannot put a small-chested, petite woman in a dress with so much heaviness up top.  She looks like she’s choking to death.  Also, it would be better if I couldn’t see her feet and her black pedicure.

Kaley Cuoco in Romona Keveza

I love Kaley.  Big Bang Theory is one of my favorite shows.  And every awards show, I hope that she will find a dress that is flattering on her.  She finally finds a dress that looks great, and she ruins it with cheesy accessories!

Instead of a prom-like red, satin clutch and red satin platforms, I would have put her in some daintier, black pumps and charcoal grey clutch.

Lea Michele in Marchesa

There was so much suspense surrounding this dress because Marchesa made a big deal about the fact that they were only dressing one celebrity.  The PR people were all aflutter, who was the chosen star selected to wear this epic gown?  The suspense was palpable (cough).

So the second the chick from Glee, who’ll be back on Broadway in two years or less, stepped out in this Alexander McQueen knock-off, I just said, “Huh? You sent me three press releases about this?”

Also, Lea Michele is 5’2″.  To even have a prayer of looking good, this gown needs someone 5’10” or above.  She looks like she’s going to be crushed under the weight of the shoulder detail.

What a bore.

Kaley Cuoco's dress is very pretty but it looks pretty tacky with those accessories.

  2. Rory says:

It seems to me that very few of the dresses last night properly fit anyone. It's like they all ran out to Nordstrom and grabbed the first thing in their size, without trying them on.

  3. Is it just me, or does it look like Dianna Agron's dress is on backwards…?

  4. Kim says:

I'm confused. Elisabeth Moss also wore Marchesa (unless I'm not remembering what she said correctly). Regardless, I agree with your choices here (and I have a pretty good guess as to who you think took home the worst dressed title). And I defintiely agree regarding Kaley's dress; it's a cute choice that she ruined with the wrong accessories! Also, I love the color of Diana's dress; it was refreshing to see something a little different, but the cut and fabric are all wrong.

The Mondays: May 13, 2024

This morning, I woke with the realization that my birthday is just over two weeks away. This year has snuck up on me. I feel like I blinked in February and magically transported myself to May like Samantha on Bewitched. So let’s recap my weekend.
