Happy Hour: Positively Smashing

Jul 29, 2011

Last night, I met Miss M and her husband CMT at the GiltCity event at the W’s POV rooftop bar for cocktails and gossip.  Okay, we gossiped, he read debt ceiling updates on his iPhone.  But I digress…

The party featured a Gilt-y Pleasures bar where the bartender (I refuse to word “mixologist,” it’s positively Euro-Trash), Marco, would make you a drink based on your favorite PG-13 rated vice.  In CMT’s case, this was whiskey.  So the bartender treated us to one of the best cocktail I’ve had in awhile, the Whiskey Smash.

The Whiskey Smash

3 lemon pieces (cut a lemon in half and then quarter one of the halves, use three of the quarters)
5 mint leaves
1 ounce simple syrup
1 1/2 ounces Makers Mark Bourbon
Lemon wedge for garnish
1 mint sprig for garnish

Muddle the lemon pieces, mint leaves, and simple syrup in the bottom of a Boston shaker glass. Add the bourbon and shake well with ice. Strain into a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with a mint sprig and a lemon wedge.

And to wear while sipping this cocktail at an outdoor bar in 100-degree heat…

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
